I like this guy and I happen to know that he likes me too. His sister told me. The thing is that both of us are shy even though we're close. (not "best friends" close but more than just acquaintances)
Anyway, lately he's been acting really strange around me and I can tell he's trying to hide his feelings. Sometimes, we sort of send out little signals and I think he knows that I like him too. The thing is that neither of us is brave enough to take the first step and admit it. But despite all this, he's sort of acting like a boyfriend to me and I'm sorta playing the role of the girlfriend. How will we know when it's official?

Seeing as both you and him are being shy and not making the first step, maybe his sister can intervene and break the ice with a comment something like "So when are you two going to just come out and say you like each other and want to be more than friends?" Us girls gotta be creative when the guy is shy--if you are also shy, talk to his sister and see what she is willing to help with.

If it was me, I would casually just say in conversation, "So, are we like going out now?" Then you'll know for sure.
