I just bought a modular home and the electic company turned on the electric today but when I got to the house the electric wasnt working , I flipped every breaker I could find and even had a neighbor come over and try but I got NOTHING . When I called the electric company back they told me it wasnt thier problem and to call a electrician but I dont have the money . Any ideas on how I could fix this or what the problem could be , we are not getting a reading on the meter but I figured its because its not getting power . I doubt it is an electrical problem because the house is only 4 years old and the last owner didnt have any problems ...........

Is the main breaker on your house turned on? Not the one on the pole or above the meter but the box that is mounted where the lines go into either the garage or house.

You should be able to use a tool to see if the line coming into your house is live. You should be able to test this off your fuse box.

If you get no signal, then the problem is either between the meter and your house or further out. An electrician cannot do anything outside the fuse box with the co-operation of the electric company.

Check to make sure that the main breaker is indeed switched on. Following that, call a licensed electrician. He'll be able to help you.

I do find it surprising that the meter is not even moving, as it does take some power from you in order to measure the amount of power you are taking.

You will need to get a voltage meter and test for voltage at the main lugs on your electric panel.

There may be a main breaker underneath of the meter outside your modular home, or attached to the panel.

The meter that is supplied by your power company is a kilowatt-hour meter. It measures the voltage present on both legs that are entering your house, and also monitors the current. The meter will not spin if there is not any load connected to it. So, in short, the power could be on to the meter, and if there is a main breaker in line that cuts off all of the electrical load, the meter will not spin because there aren't any amps going through the wires.

Go to a hard ware store and purchase a multimeter for about 25 dollars and turn it to the 250v AC scale there turn off your breakers and open your service panel in your house be sure not to touch any wire with you hands because the wires coming in should still be hotthere will 3 black wires coming in from the power co. two of them will conect to each will connect to each side of where your breakers areonr on the right and one the left these are your hot wires and the other black wire will connect to the shiney copper bars on each side of your box take the probes of the tester and put one on the copper bar and the othe probe on one of the hot wires and the meter schould read 120 volts on each of the hot wires if it dont read between 114 and 126v call the power co its there problem.if you are not comfortable with working on it with the wire being hot call an electrician he wont charge much to just test this If you test the wires and you get varing voltages from say 40 to80 volts they have a loose neautrall wire if no voltage is there an unlucky squirrel probably has shorted out the wires and blown a fuse at the transformer.Be carefull

There is a VERY LARGE toggle type breaker switch in a Horizontal Position right at the very top of where all the breakers are located. Switch it to the RIGHT which is ON It probably has a capacity of like 100 or 150 amps.

Are you sure you hit the main breaker in the control panel?
