What month/ time of the year is best to have a baby?

Question

I was just wondering, what your opinions are regarding when the best time of the year would be to conceive and/or have a child? Take into consideration weather, sickness, and other things I'm not thinking of... Thanks!

With my first child I got pregnant in October, and he was born in July. I thought that was pretty good because during the time when streets were icy I wasn't too big, so I didn't have to worry too much about slipping and falling down. And I wasn't pregnant during the hottest months of August and September. Now we can have birthday parties for him outside because its always nice weather.

My second child was born just before Thanksgiving last year (concieved in March). It was a more miserable hot pregnancy because I was big during the hottest months. We were worried that the roads might not be good when it came time to have her--we picked a hospital that was 30 miles away. We won't be able to have outdoor birthday parties for her because the weather is always nasty at the end of November, but at least we avoided Christmas.

I was sick twice with colds during my first pregnancy, and only once during the second.

I think it has a lot to do with the region that you live in. Like, I got pregnant in May and had my son in February, but if I had planned it out, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant for at least another two month, maybe even three. That way, I wouldn't have been watching the weather channel everyday and praying that the salt trucks would go down our road first. See, I live in an area where winter weather can be extreme- in the 50's one day and the next it drops to below zero and 8 inches of snow. Mix that with the hilly, curvy roads and that can equal disaster if I had gone into labor at the wrong time.

On the other hand, if you live in an area further south, where summers can be extreme, but winters are more mild, that timing may have been perfect. You wouldn't be hugely pregnant in the summer and had been terribly uncomfortable, but you wouldn't have had to worry about whether or not you could make it to the hospital.

Overall, though, I think spring, like May is a great time to have a baby, or the fall, like October.

I got pregnant in December and had my son in September and I loved it. I loved that I was sick while it was cold out and so I could open the window and the breeze helped with the sickness. I loved that I could go swimming while I was huge and it cooled me off and took the pressure of the extra weight off me. I loved being big and pregnant in the summer, too because I didn't have to wear much, so I was more comfy and everyone had their A/C on anyhow. Ideally I want to get pregnant in November next time so that the pools won't close before I've had the baby.

I think around may is a good time to concieve your not very pregnant during the summer and in feb you have your baby and by the next summer they are big enough to do somethings with I think its the best time

My only thoughts on this are that you constantly feel hot when you are pregnant, especially towards the end... so if it's possible, plan it so you're not hugely pregnant in the summer.

Also, I guess if you have horrible winters where you live, you may not want to be going into labor during bad snow conditions as it may impede your trip to the hospital or birthing center.

Fall! I have always loved Autumn so i say October is the best. Or spring is nice too April or May! Not summer my son born in late August let me tell you i was never so hot and uncomfortable in my life! lol

I just read in the newspaper today that conceiving a baby in the spring results in the highest rate of premature deliveries. (Therefore the baby would be born in winter.)

The best time is when it happens. When you try to plan it never seems to work and you may end up disappointed.

Spring - it's really uncomfortable being really pregnant in the summer.
