Ranks: Worn on the shoulder epaulets. The epaulet is inserted into the cloth shoulder Ranks and buttoned. The edge of the cloth shoulder mark closest to the silver braid must be as close as possible to the upper seam of the sleeve. GMC Rank will be worn such that an imaginary 'V' can be drawn from the silver lines behind wear's head.

Mess dress: will comply with the standards in AFI 36-2903, with the following modifications:

Ranks: Wear hard shoulder boards with appropriate silver stripes to denote cadet Rank.

Braid: POC cadets will wear silver sleeve braid.

My daughter is in Army JROTC and she thinks they face up toward the neck. I am not sure what that means, but I hope it helps you soldier to be.
