My bf and I differ on a lot of important things..we've been together for 9 months and recently started talking about a future togther. Prob is that he has a major problem with homosexuality, but i have people in my family that are gay, and i support it. he wants to raise his kids in a strong and strict Christian household, but i would rather let my kids make their own decisions..and he is a complete mama's boy..and i cant stand his mom! and i doubt she likes me either...and i wanna live in africa for a year or two when i become a doctor, and he says he probably can't deal with that, but i'm not giving that up for him...how do we deal with this? we are both fairly young, so i try not to put too much thought into it...but he keeps making plans and i'm completely unsure of how our future looks..any comments or suggestions?

to alpha_trophy (the 1st to answer): no one asked you what your opinion is on if i should reproduce..maybe your mom should have spared the gene pool, then the world would be a better place

If your heart is set on being a doctor then you go girl! GO for it! If he loves you then he should accept you for who you are. As far as your family is concerned and the sexuality. Now days all of it is out there, not like back then you know what I mean. He should take it one day at a time and let you go for your goal and he should think about his future too. About his mom, most mom's will always think no woman is good enough for thier boy! Good luck girl and keep you head up!

Let him go before it gets more serious. If the two of you can not compromise now what makes you think it will get easier when the two of you are married or living together. Maybe you guys get along and have fun together but if you have other plans that he cant deal with end it now before it gets harder as the relationship grows. You could always be friends if you dont want to completely let go. I'm sure theres someone else out that is willing to share these experiences with you. Good Luck

If you two really love each other, then you guys should be able to work it out. The two of you should learn to agree with each other if what you have is two love. But it's only been 9 months, and like you said, your young. Everything should come into place with time.

Your future honestly from a married woman does not look good. There are to many things that you disagree on already. I wish you well being a great Dr. and am sure that someday you will find the right person.

the way things sound it may become very difficult to adjust..a possible future is only possible with sacrifices and understanding of both partners..its not possible when your bf wants one thing but doesnt allow you to chase your own dreams of being a doctor...which i think is great especially in a country as that as Africa where medical treatment is very difficult to get..(good luck in that)..but you have to talk to your bf and let him know what your dreams are and that he should respect that..for now you two need to worry about completing college and your career in the future...worry about the kids and family stuff later...if he understands and is willing to be with you on your dreams of becoming a doctor..then he's worth thinking about for a possible future with...however if he continues to nag you about the things that he wants and doesnt care about your dreams...then its not worth it hun..you will have to find someone who is willing to understand you and your desires...for now relax and talk to him about this and only worry about becoming a doctor since that is really important..if he complies with you great..if not..then you have only wasted 9 months and its not late to let him go and search for your man

Wow, I can relate. When I was with my boyfriend.. seriously everything about us was opposte and it made it really hard. If you love eachother enough you'll come to an agreement. The kids thing and momas boy thing will probably be the easiest things to work out... you can compromise. But as for you moving to Africa... that might be the thing that tears you apart.

It doesn't look like this is going to work. You have a lot of differences. Unless he wants to compromise and be open minded about things its going to be difficult for both of you.

I think you should probably try to avoid talking about it but if it keeps coming back up or you cant stop thinking about it brake up with him because you dont want to give up your dreams for his! or you guys could try to compromise.

It sounds like you are starting to go in different directions already.
This will keep on getting worse as time goes by.
