My sister is bipolar and border line schitzo, and when she goes off her medication she is so different. She becomes severly depressed and irritable. We can be at the store and if she thinks someone looked at her the wrong way she's all over them. With the schitzo part she starts to hear voices and sees her nightmares living around her. It's really tough. When she gets off her meds we have to put her in the hospital until her medications have stabalized her enough to be on her own again, which is usually at least 4 weeks.
A person with any type of mental illness should continue with treatment unless a doctor tells them to stop.

Nervous breakdown?? NO that wouldn't happen...
Depending on what part of the bipolar you have depends on how you are without treatment...
Meaning that I cry, feel as though all hates me, everything is my fault - no matter what it is... That I just want to climb in a hole and hide...
My brother on the other hand is opposite... He has the anger. He just found out that he is bipolar... He was on meds and we got a long great though he stopped taking his meds and it is back the same as when we were growing up... He hates everyone, including me. He hated MoM though until just a year or two ago...
Personally I suggest talking to someone and begin some meds that will work with your bipolar... Don't ever stop taking them unless you have good reasons...
It might just be one med that helps you... Or you might have to be on a couple of them... to feel normal again.

Any number of things--and none of them pleasant. I would not wait any longer to find out.
Get whoever it is into a doctor's office to be diagnosed. The doctor may or may not prescribe meds, and may or may not refer to therapy. Right now, whatever the doctor does is better than what the person's going through.

Well, one thing that can happen is the person either tries to hurt themselves either by self harm or suicide attempts or they try to hurt someone else.
