My ex wife and I while we were married had a visit from my folks from out of state. We were at a Pizza hut and after my father ate a bit of the pizza and drank a huge gulp of soda He let out with a wallop of a burp. My wife and I almost fell through the floor! Everyone just staired at my father.

I'd laugh & lighten up!

Myself, I have made a huge joke out of it to make the deliverer of the burp think about how rude it sounded. A little giggle puts the rest of the party at ease.

You cannot help someone else's manners.
You were probably more embarrassed that he did it in front of your spouse then the public.
Remember one thing.. unless that public is friends of yours they won't remember that burp five minutes after it happened.
Explain what you need to to your wife, and let it go, it's really no reflection on you.

In the moment if it was just a Pizza hut, I might laugh it up and later on take Dad aside and say, you know you might not mean anything by it but it's a bit embarrassing you letting loose so freely. My Wife's not used to that kind of display.....if he seriously has a issue with it, such as medical; reflux ect...I'd explain the chances of that happening to future In-laws and let them take the risk of embarassment.

Especially if it were in a casual dining place such as Pizza Hut, I'd give my dad a hearty congratulations, as soon as I got done with a heartfelt laugh. Who cares what others think. It's a natural bodily function, and in some places, is considered to be a compliment to the chef. As a matter of fact, as soon as my dad finished, he'd probably follow it up with a phrase such as "My compliments to the chef!"

I'd probably spit my soda all over the place from laughing so hard. That would be hilarious. I've been in those situations before and I know how you feel (I was embarrassed too) but I've decided since that it's not worth it to care alot about what other people think.

seeing how it was just pizza hut and not some fancy resturant, i would have laughed and challenged him to a burping contest. lighten up im sure your father wouldnt be ashamed of you if the situation were reversed. besides everyone burps, its a part of life, not something to be ashamed of

lol seems older men believe they have the "right" to belch and openly flatus without any sense of regret. I love my father, but he has the manners of a jabberwocky. Smart and very funny, he is very unashamed to fill the room with his gastric potpourri. I am always embarrassed and I always say something about it.

I'd say that depends on your father.
Some feel a good burp "Isn't bad manners, just good food".
Some would be totally embarassed.
Others would challenge you to say anything.
If it were my father, he'd say "Excuse Me!" and every one would without another word.

the way my family works, someone would just say "god, you are disgusting dad, get some manners."

where he would probaby reply with something like "better out than in"

why be embarrased? you didnt do it. the only person that could/should be embarrased by that is your grandparents - cause i am sure they tried to teach him better.

id rather ignore everyone in there, so that my father would feel that i know it was only an accidental firing. i know of many people who do experienced the same embarrassing moments

You should have busted up laughing! Loosen up a little! Then follow it up with "dang dad!", maybe even a high five if it had good tone :-)
