AVCG Free Advisor is a very simple and free Anti-virus program for x86 Windows Systems.
Also, a good free Anti-Spyware program would be Ad-Aware. Both of the links for these programs are below.

AVG is the best!!! When I got infected with a Trojan, Norton didn't even detect it but AVG not only detected it, but removed them all, and there were many!
Ad-Aware is also awesome. I run it every day or so and it always catches some kind of sly stuff trying to track me, or whatever.
Lastly, I would like to recommend downloading (also for free) Firefox, which is a web browser that puts internet explorer to shame. It is much faster because there are much fewer attacks against it.

I have been using AVG free home edition for 3 years now...it is great..when i had AVG and Norton, AVG was picking up stuff norton wasn't. Just make sure if you get it that you get the free home edition.

If you really want to secure your computer with free antivirus, use avast. The home edition of avast is free ( just an online registration is required - absolutely free). I am using it for nearly 2 years and no virus has touched my computer yet, eventhough my computer is always online. I recommend to use ewido antispyware along with avast and you will be 100% safe.

Two of the best free ones are Avast and AVG.
You can do a little of your own homework to Google these programs for the download URL's. :)
