Anyone know any easy way to train your dogs. I have a lot of spare time on my hands and I thought I should try to train my Pomaranian Poodle. It can keep me busy.

NO TRAINING A POM A POO

My favorite dog was my Pom-A-Poo, Tirzah. They are very intelligent dogs, and quick learners. She was the first dog I had ever had, and I had had no prior experience in training an animal. The first thing I did was train her to go outside. Very easy! I took her out every couple of hours, at first, especially after meals, after I saw her drinking water, right after she got up, and right before she went to bed. I took her in between times, and she got that down right away.

Then, again, with no experience, I taught her to stay. This took a bit longer. But I kept treats in my pocket. I did this in the house, in the hallway, and after she got it down I took her outside for more practice. I put her at one end of the hall, and said, "stay," and held my hand up. When she began to come toward me. I said, "no," and put her back where she was. I kept repeating "stay" and if she would stay for even 2 seconds, I would say "good girl" and give her a treat. It only took a couple of days of this, and she would stay with my back turned, or whatever I did until I said, "come here, girl!" Then I stopped using treats, and she was completely trained forever.

Then I taught her to shake hands. I just picked up her paw, shook it, and gave the command "shake," and said, "good girl." Then I gave her a treat. (This took a couple of days and a lot of patience on both our parts!) Then, I put my hand underneath her paw and said, "shake!" If she even lifted it, or even looked like she was trying, she got a treat, hugs, and good girl! We just kept doing this, much to her dismay, and finally--after a day or two-- it worked!

Just be very, very nice, and let your dog rest when he or she becomes the slightest bit frustrated. The dog is trying to please you, and wants to please you. Only use the treats until you can do it with positive reinforcement with your voice and hugs

Like I said, I had had no prior experience, but my Pom-A-Poo was very, very smart, and she taught me as much or more than I ever taught her. All the best!
