Nah, prayer isn't the answer. Meditation is. Don't supplicate to a god, (or goddess), just meditate on nothingness.
An hour a day, every day, to start. Then increase it until you are able to go into a trance for a week at a time. That should do it.

It certainly depends upon who took your avatar. If yahoo took it, chances are it is too far gone anyway. What was your avatar? Where did it go? Who took it? Why would they want it?
