it doesn't take a very smart person to figure out that our school system here in the states is not one of the best in the world. america is supposedly the most powerful country in the world, yet the school system does not build that strong a foundation of the future leaders of the planet's greatest country in terms of democracy and GDP or whatever else. we are all aware of how badly the manners and conducts and virtues of the newer generations are deteriorating. also, some say that the english spoken in america is many times grammatically incorrect and most are horrible when it comes to spelling. so tell me, how can we improve?

E-tard I was trying to keep it informal. For your information, I was not educated here during my elementary and part of my high school years and I'm very glad I wasn't. If you're really smart, maybe you should have provided an answer

I do not think throwing more money at the system will help. I think more and better parental involvement is the key.. However I have no idea how to make that happen. You can not legislate a sense of personal responsibility.

For starters, abolishing the NEA and the TEA and removing cultural diversity and humanities as required subjects. Make it mandatory to teach through the 12th grade Math, English, American History, Spelling and Grammar, And also you must pass in stages the U.S. Constitution in the 6th, 8th 10th and 12th grades, and Science. The other stuff should take a back seat. Ever since this other garbage took precedence in the public schools we have had a dumbing down of America. I am sure the people who support the TEA and the NEA will cry foul and everything else, but it is a fact that they have been taken over by nut jobs, Communists and Socialists. I have seen and met these idiots, so I know what they are. Reduce the pay of administrator's pay significantly and raise the pay of teachers according to their performance, not on how much tenure they have. Administrators have become politicians and they are as corrupt as the rest of the politicians are. Also, to reduce the burden on the schools, teachers and taxpaying citizens, you must be able to prove that you are either here legally, or are an American citizen. All of this would greatly improve the public school system.

In my opinion the schools need to start focusing more on the students as individuals and start teaching them what they need to know instead of worrying about how much money the government is going to give them.

It seems like you've been the victim of bad teaching yourself (i.e. your poor punctuation and capitalization skills).
