My first tattoo was on my upper back. Hurt a lot. I want to get my next tattoo on my side above my hip but below my ribs. And I want the other one on my bottom. Would they hurt that much?

The spots you described probably wont hurt that bad.
Any where on the ribs hurts. Back of your arms can also be pain full

It really just depends on how skinny you are.
If you're super skinny (I am) any tattoo is going to hurt, and be more painful for you than say someone with lots of meat on their bones.
Don't think about the pain of a tattoo. That is momentary.
Just think about the design and how much you're going to love it in the place that you choose.
But, below the ribs doesn't hurt as bad as ribs. When you get tattooed over your actual ribs, then you'll be experiencing true pain of a tattoo.
You are more than likely going to experience a little bruising around your tattoo from the pressure the artist is going to need to put on your skin because that area is awkward do to nothing being under it.

I have six tattoos in various locations: between my shoulder blades, across the small of my back, back of my neck just below my hairline, on my left bicep, on my right forearm, and one below my collarbone. The ones that were done over bone ( between my shoulder blades and on the back of my neck) did not hurt that much, on a scale of 1-10 for pain, they rated only a 2. The remaining ones on soft flesh hurt like h*** and pain rating was 8 for the one across the small of my back.

You can test areas of the body, you want tatooed, simply by pinching the skin firmly. That'll let u know how tender some ares might be than others.

I have one on my hip, it hurt, mostly because there is not enough fat there to ease the pain, but it did heal a lot quicker than the one on my ankle.

areas with more fat hurt the least...feet hurt really badly, while stomach and butt aren't supposed to hurt much at all!
