the lower jawbone was fractured on sunday night and it is now tuesday and they are still waiting on a doctor to operate , fractured on both sides and a loose tooth.

Here is the real truth.
They need to rule out infection and let the swelling go down.
That is not uncommon. No worries. They are watching for nerve damage as well. This is a serious operation.
That is a hellva weight loss program. It will be wired shut for at least 4-6 weeks. Invest in some straws that bend. A bell that rings. Limber up those fingers, you will be text messaging everyone. Recovery will be long and difficult. NO joke, be prepared mentally and physically.
Protein shakes and ice cream. Chicken broth and a blender.
Sorry, it will be painful. Bone pain always IS. I recommend cold packs ALL the time the first week or so. IT will reduce the swelling and help numb the pain.
When you get the ability to open your mouth again, use gel hot pack on both sides BEFORE trying to open wide, it will help to relax those muscles. Don't use Heat while "wired shut" it will only delay the healing, it feels good, but its really bad for you.
Don't worry about the tooth, it will be set in place before the surgery, and hopefully heal soon. A special oral surgeon needs to look at it. I highly recommend Hypnosis for the pain management. It really works, they can come to your hospital room most times (private rooms). Many woman use it for child birth and others for Cancer treatments.
Get at least 3-5 sessions while you are out "healing" because once the wire is off, is when the real recovery begins. Wear the head gear at night or when your at home to allow it to rest.
