I've heard seven years if grown from seeds, but it should only take about 3 years for a grafted tree. Your tree may never fruit if it's grown in unfavourable conditions [eg; bad soil, insufficient sunlight, insufficient water etc. etc.] .

Trees grown from seedlings can take up to 10 years. That is why many varieties are grafted onto root stock. Usually plum.
When you buy an apple tree it is usually abouy 6' in height which includes the root stock. They will fruit in the first year of planting, but often the fruit is smalland & sparse. It is better to knock off the fruit so more energy goes into growth and root development.
The frollowing year will see more fruit setting and better sizes.

It is also better to prune at least one third of the trees size before planting to get it established

it depends on how well you take care of it and how large the tree was when you planted it. My step dad planted several apple trees all at once and they bloomed with in a year but the fruit was not that large.
