we 'broke up' a few months ago, or rather, i just stopped hearing from him. Lately, about every month or so, I'll get an e-mail from him and we'll e-mail back and forth for a few days, and then usually, I stop e-mailing him....Then a month or so later, another e-mail from him....Is he trying to get back together, is he 'keeping a door open' in case he wants to get back together in the future or is he just trying to become friends. I'm really confused....

It's seems to me girl friend the guy don't know what he wants. Well what do you want?If it's him then get back together if not be friends if you can, if not if this keeps going on one day you will be seeing some one new than he might show his butt.. I think you should follow your heart on this one. If he was such a great catch you wouldn't keep blowig him off.

Sounds like he's just being a friend who will drop u a line every now and then to say hi.
He may be leaving the door open or maybe not.
If u really want to know I guess u should ask him.

You are very right in saying that he's keeping the door open just in case.....
Move on, don't even email him back. Perhaps one or two email during the holidays if he emails you first.... but keep it as a holiday wish.

I think he still likes you realized he made a huge mistake by "breaking up with you"
you should ask him if he is trying to get back together and if you still like him go for it!!!

The same thing happened to me. But after he got tired of hearing me talk about my wonderful boyfriend all the time, he finally got my unspoken message and left me alone for good!
