I'm entering a Nascar pool and have to pick ONE driver from EACH of the following groups:

Group A: Dale Jr., Hamlin, Harvick, J. Johnson, Kenseth

Group B: J. Burton, Kyle Busch, J. Gordon, Kahne, Stewart

Group C: Biffle, Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Edwards, Mears

Group D: B. Labonte, M. Martin, Newman, Riggs, Truex

Group E: Gilliland, McMurray, Sadler, Sorenson, Yeley

Group F: R. Gordon, D. Jarrett, Mayfield, D. Ragan, Vickers

Group G: Blaney, P. Menard, Montoya, T. Raines, D. Reutimann, D. Streme

Group H: W. Burton, J. Green, Nemecheck, K. Petty, R. Rudd, M. Waltrip

Group I: AJ Allmendinger, M. Bliss, S. Marlin, Schrader, K. Wallace, B. Whitt

Group J: T. Bodine, D. Cope, B. Said, J. Sauter, R. Smith, J. Wood

The picks I am considering thus far are A: Johnson B:Stewart (Maybe Gordon or Kahne?) C: Busch D: Newman E: McMurray F: Vickers G: Menard (Maybe Montoya?) H: Rudd I:Schrader J: Said

Any advice on the picks you would make/changes to mine?

Sorry I forgot to include the scoring for this league, which makes a big difference in how to make the picks.

Every driver you pick is started every race. You are only awarded points if your driver finishes in the top 10 as follows:

Win: 15 points
2nd: 9 points
3rd: 8 points
4th: 7 points
5th: 6 points
6th: 5 points
7th: 4 points
8th: 3 points
9th: 2 points
10th: 1 point

You also get 10points if one of your drivers get the pole.

Some people mentioned drivers that are running full schedules...my only concern is that even though some of them may run every race, they may never come in the top 10 and therefore never score me any points. Some of the answers have been really good so far and have helped me out a bit, keep them coming!

Group A: Johnson (Kenseth would be the only other option)
B: Gordon (he's less up and down compared to Stewart)
C: Biffle (Busch can't get it done in a Dodge)
D: Newman (he's overrated but still the best of this group)
E:McMurray (he should have better team chemistry this year)
F: Mayfield (this is the toughest group to pick one from)
G: Raines (He will drive all the races this year)
H: Nemecheck (he has Hendrick horsepower)
I: Marlin (Schrader is not running all the races)
J: Smith (he will end up running the most races in this group)

Martin and Schrader are decent enough but remember they are both running partial schedules this year. I don't know exactly how your league works but try to get guys that have the best opportunity to score points each week, which means they have to be in a lot of races. Said would not be a bad pick if you don't run someone from each group each week, but if it's one guy from each group every week take Smith as he is running 16 races opposite Mark Martin.

Group A: Harvick. It's time. RCR turned the corner last year and are clicking. Harvick was white hot.

Group B: Kyle Busch. All the others have more experience, but this kid hangs around in the top ten every week. He's a year older and wiser, and is going to make some noise.

Group C: Biffle. I would have picked Bowyer, but he's still a year away. Biffle struggled the first half of last season, but because of bad breaks, not bad racing. His team is really tight.

Group D: B. Labonte. I would have taken Martin, but I don't think he's running a full schedule. In this group, Labonte is unspectacular, but the safest bet.

Group E: Sadler. A risky pick, because of the unknown factor. He only ran a handful of races with Evernham last year, but he's got a quality team. He'll benefit from Kahne being a teammate.

Group F: Vickers. The best of a really shaky group.

Group G: T. Raines. He had a solid first season in the 96 car, and should be better this year.

Here are my suggestions:
A: J. Johnson (has the championship going for him)

B: Stewart is pretty much consistantly good, but Kahne had the most wins in 2006.

C: Edwards, but he's my personal favorite driver, so I may be biased

D: Newman or Truex would be good choices

E: up in the air

F: I'd say Vickers (has the backing of a winning team)

G: any

H: I'd stay away from Waltrip...not that he's not good, but he'll be a new team owner w/ Toyota

I: I'd go w/ Marlin...no particular reason

J: Said is good, but doesn't run every race...don't know much about the rest of them.

Group A: Harvick (he had a great run last season..and I think he's fired up for this season..)

B: Stewart (hunger feeds the beast!)

C: Biffle (they seem to be a pretty together team now, and i think they'll get pretty strong here)

D: Labonte

E: Sadler

F: VIckers

G: Blaney (was doing really good last season towards the end, and has been putting down some good times during practice.. ) either that or Stremme.

H: Burton

I: Schrader (again going off of last year's momentum)

J: Bodine..

What I usually do is this...cause I have the same deal.

I came up with a formula for picking drivers, and out of the list I pick the ones that are the closest to the top of my formula..

I've been doing this for about 3 years now and I just decided to make it public, as some of my friends wondered how I did it.

You can see it at doolsworld.net

Thanks!
