Theres not a lot in palm springs for kids besides the hotel pool and the ice cream store downtown. There is the Living Desert in Palm Desert, Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert in Rancho Mirage near by that is cool. Thta is it besides the tram which is boring for anyone under 15 yrs old and it does break down and when that happens it is very frightening for the children on board to be stuck so high up. My kids like to eat at the Rubys diner downtown. This is a retirement area that has recently become more trendy for some singles because it is cheaper then Los Angelse, it is not a family oriented community.

Okay.. I have done this more than once! First and foremost.. you need to do the aerial tram tour. Have dinner up there and enjoy hot chocolate while enjoying the beautiful view of the mountains. Plan on a hike.. bring water. As it is kind of a trek to the interior valley from the lodge. But it is well worth it. I've been there both when it has snow on the ground and in the summer when the brooks run gently through the conifer filled meadows. Check ahead of time what the weather is like and if going during high season, get there early!! I have waited 3 hours once to get up to the top.

Also check out the Living Desert Zoo. It's a small zoo, but has so much to see. The kids always love doing that!

The Palm Springs Desert Museum is nice, depending on the childrens age.

The Indian Canyons is a must see. It is located on Agua Caliente tribal land just minutes from downtown Palm Springs.

Tahquitz Canyon has guided tours. It's beautiful! They have a gift shop with local trinkets and a visitor center.

Knott's Soak City, if its summertime. Water slides and wave pools is lasting fun.

Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert - is a kids museum. Need I say more!

Two budget friendly hotels I can reccommend is the Comfort Inn. Located in the heart of Down Town Palm Springs. Great Deluxe Continental breakfast.. has bagels, belgium waffles, cereal, fruit, etc.

And Caliente Tropics.. which was Elvis' spot in his hay days. Features one of the largest swimming pools, tikki themed with 2 restaurants on location, big beach blanket towels for the pool. Continental breakfast was small, not it's best feature, but it may have changed since our last visit. (they said it was in the works) The employees are extremely nice and helpful.

A great website I always use, where they guarantee the lowest hotel prices by 110%...

Just go to lodging and advanced search and type in the names of either hotel.

Good luck and Happy Trails!

Soak City waterpark is fun, but I don't think it is open in the winter. There is always miniature golf. The Living Desert museum which is really more like a zoo is worth taking kids to. There is also a good museum of World War II aircraft near the Palm Springs airport. Riding bikes is fun. And a visit to the Indian reservation can also be interesting for kids. I don't agree that the tram is boring for kids. My kids really like the tram, and then they can play in the snow at the top of the mountain. But my kids' absolute favorite thing to do in Palm Springs is taking the boat ride from the Marriott Hotel lobby to the Japanese restaurant there.
