How lucky can you get! To have thick hair is a blessing, even if it may be more trouble. I'm assuming you live in the USA...if so you will never run out of products to try. And you can always get some professional advice when you get your hair cut...just ask for some suggestions....or start spending time reading the labels because there are products you can put on your hair...probably a conditioner after you wash it which will be a big help after it dries.
Most of the labels tell you what it does....and yes there are so many it will take awhile....maybe look at the small bottle samples and try one at a time until you find one you like...then you haven't put out a lot of money.
Have to admit it's a challenge....and you could also watch for someone who has hair similar to yours...then ask what they do....most people don't mind...especially if you are admiring how nice their's looks.
But sorry....don't have a specific suggestion....just have a niece who had rather long thick hair and she was great at trying all the new products. Also check out magazines....have noticed that some have great suggestions about new products to try.

Well is a whole regimen that you need, make sure you find a smoothing shampoo and conditioner and after you towel dry put some heat protector because the heat is making it look dull. So start doing something right. Use stuff for your type of hair no whatever you find ina grocery store. I recommend biolage smoothing system and the fortifying heat styler from the same brand.

My hairs the same. Curly and poofy. I use Matrix Smoothing System.
Step 1 Shampoo
Step 2 Condtion
*Step 3 Ironing spray/Heat protector
*Step 4 Smooth/Lock
(*the next steps are for when your out of the shower an are optional. There are two choices to chose from for each.)
I use CHI when I get out of the shower. Biosilk works great too. (they're both anti frizz syrums. apply when hair is damp)They make your hair less frizzy and look and feel smoother. They also protect your hair from heat like irons and hair dryers. You can pick them up at almost all hair salons.
DONT BRUSH YOUR HAIR. It only makes your hair frizier. If you ahve problem with nots and such, just comb your hair when it's damp.
* If you've caused damage to your hair from ironing it, I recomend Joice K-Pak. You can pick up the kit at most salons as well and it makes your hair smooth, and soft. It reconsructs hair as well because it is made with the building blocks of hair.
A Cermaic Iron works best too and causes less damage then metal irons.

I have that exact same hair. I use a anti frizz serum when my hair is partially dry. Do you wash your hair in the morning or at night because i find if you sleep on your hair overnight and don't style it or brush it in the morning it doesn't get poofy. So style your hair before you go to bed. Also if you have naturally sort of wavy hair, like i do, if you brush your hair if poofs.Use Paul Mitchell hair thinning shampoo and conditioner.

omg!! finally someone that has the same problem as me!! i feel u!. the main thing to do is braid ur hair before u go to bed. it really helps calm it down and make it less poofy.. as to the shinyness, there r millions of creams and gel-like products that u can put on ur hair. the shampoos dont really work. so yea, buy some sort of oil or gel that says it styles and calms the hair. that shud help :D

You might have product build up on your hair. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo is the best clarifying shampoo I've found.
Joico K-Pak is the best conditioner for silky hair.

I too suffer from this problem. When styling your hair try a little hand or body lotion. I know this sounds nuts but it really keeps the puffiness down. Also try brushing your hair with a comb and not a brush.

Call your hair dresser. Your hairdresser will know what product to put on your hair to get your hair styled just the way you want it.
