Roman Catholicism is #1 in the major branch of Christianity
Christianity began in the 1st century AD as a Jewish sect, and shares many religious texts with Judaism, specifically the Hebrew Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament (see Judeo-Christian).
There is a diversity of doctrines and practices among groups calling themselves Christian. These groups are sometimes classified under denominations, though for theological reasons many groups reject this classification system.Christianity may be broadly represented as being divided into three main groupings:
1) Roman Catholicism: The Roman Catholic Church, the largest single body, includes the Latin Rite and totals more than 1 billion baptized members.
2) Eastern Christianity: Eastern Orthodox Churches, Oriental Orthodox Churches, the 100,000 member Assyrian Church of the East, and others with a combined membership of more than 300 million baptized members.
3) Protestantism: Groups such as Anglicans, Lutherans, Reformed/Presbyterians, Congregational/United Church of Christ, Evangelical, Charismatic, Baptists, Methodists, Nazarenes, Anabaptists, Seventh-day Adventists and Pentecostals. The oldest of these separated from the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century Protestant Reformation, followed in many cases by further divisions.
Estimates of the total number of
Protestants are very uncertain, partly because of the difficulty in determining which denominations should be placed in this category, but it seems to be unquestionable that Protestantism is the second major branch of Christianity (after Roman Catholicism) in number of followers.

Just messing with people's heads. There is a third person mentality too. They want you to think that if everybody else is leaving Catholicism maybe you should too but, they don't understand that Jesus himself keeps them and they know that they are in the right religion. Oh some people leave who weren't really with us to start with but, especially in these end times the store house is beginning to fill up and I am glad. Pope John Paul II did alot to spread the faith by living the good example that he did. Weather people wanted to or not they couldn't help respecting the man and he really did alot for Catholicism.

In some areas, it's changing quite dramatically. In my own city, there are four Catholic churches. One is doing fairly well, one somewhat ok, and the third is slowly dying. There aren't enough priests to cover all parishes. The third church I mentioned is not capable of financially supporting itself, and likely, the three roman rite churches will merge.
Throughout this state, the number of priests available to serve the parishes is diminishing to the point where retirement ages are being raised, and many parishes no longer have their own pastor.
There is also a migration in many areas from Catholicism to evangellical churches, but with the number of hard-core anti-evolutionists, that might change in the future.

Well, it is smaller in the western world in general than it once was, but only as a PROPORTION of the population. In RAW NUMBERS it is stronger than it has ever been, with more adherents today than the whole population of the Earth in the time of Jesus.

Wishful thinking. The on-going scandals within the Catholic church cast serious doubt on the authority of the church. Those doubts should not be ignored or minimized. If those who claim to be leading you to God are going to hell themselves, then perhaps people are concluding that they are being led to hell, too. And rightly so.

It's a business. It adapts like a business. It's predicated on the bottom line, mostly on the financial backs of the poor and the poorly educated.

It is probably falling in wealthy educated countries, and rising in undereducated third world countries, which will only be a setback for them.

Because the fastest growing religion in the world is Muslim. Just as the bible fortells there will be one world religion in the end and that religion will persecute Christians. Did you know that in Muslim countries it is illegal to be Christian? You can be arrested and put to death for the "crime" of being Christian. And we have our first Muslim holding government office in America. It is getting pretty scary. Hold on tightly to Jesus!

Because people are starting to see evil forces driving the false religion. Satan is called "the mimicker of truth". All down through the ages he has always mimicked the truth. What seems like the true way and right way to believe, really isn't. That's because Satan has made a false duplicate of the original (the Church of God, His "little flock"), by spiritually blinding the human race and setting up his own false religion on a massive scale. This was Satan's ultimate "power trip". This was his masterpiece of deception like no other. The Evil One used the deceived humans (church fathers) to further his plans of demise for Mankind. The political motives of the Roman Empire were of the up most importance when it came to Power and control. So they seized the opportunity to persuade the citizens of the region that their religion was to be the only religion, and to acknowledge it as such or their consequences would be death. Between 150 and 200 A.D. The Apostolic teachings of Christ and anyone professing to be a follower of Christ were threatened with their lives and ordered to stop what they were doing or die. So the original Church of God (the little flock) that preached the true Gospel and practiced their faith in that region started to scatter into the wilderness to evade persicution by the Caesar of Rome. (God's "little flock" by the hand of God has survived through the ages and is a strong Christian force in the world today). By the refusal of a citizen to submit to their "new brand" of Christian faith, a group of them would be tossed into the middle of the coliseum to be mauled and ravaged by blood thirsty lions as the spectators would shout and scream for more. Around 305 A.D. Constantine was the Caesar of Rome and hell bent on creating a church for himself (with the help of that "ancient serpent of old") to increase his power and seal his name in history. So he thought up brilliant scheme to convince the citizens of the region that God showed him a sign and that he should act on it. So he told the people a LIE that only Satan his father would be proud of....... that he was lying down outside and he kept staring at the clouds for sometime and after a while he saw a formation in the clouds representing the shape of a cross. He told the people that it was a sign from God and was telling him that he should become a great powerful leader for God and that he should be the one to start a new and powerful church. A church where everyone from all around can come and worship........ that would be a "universal" type of church........So that's when he took it upon himself to create the first and only church of it's kind that he named the "Catholic Church". (Catholic meaning universal) Constantine proclaimed to be and actually was their first Pope.(not Peter, through grossly misinterpreted scripture by the corrupt church fathers) Pagan ritualistic practices were Incorporated into the Church soley for the reason to draw more people who were already engulfed in pagan worship in and around that region of territory (Rome). Constantines motives were obvious. If he could be the leader and control the largest group of worshipers than he could control the world. Not long after, he devised his plans that would assuredly seal him in history forever. After his self appointed proclamation of Pope, he sent out his army of crusaders to commit atrocities against the human race by slaughtering an estimated 500 million innocent people soley because of their refusal to submit to the "faith" of the Roman Catholic Church whether they were Christian or not. The evil forces behind this demented man were all encompassing, forever to be etched into the minds of men and history as THE worst maniacal mass forms of human genocide ever known. Constantine and His army of crusading slayers had no intention of stopping, and turning back was not an option. The Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic Church marched on...........To this day the Roman Catholic Church is a driving force. A quasi political /religion powerhouse of extreme influence in the world today. The dark forces behind their ambitions of world power are all to real and the ultimate quest for power and world dominiation are yet to come. The prophecy of world events leading up to today have been for-told and are unfolding before our eyes. The political forces of the European Union and the political agenda of the Vatican are planning a strategical stronghold in Europe to develope a massive army in the millions. Their unquentchable thirst to gain power and control for their forces leading up to a "one world government" and a new world order, is their sole objective for ushering in the revelation of the anti-christ and the 7 year tribulation. .......Get ready people, it's getting real close.................
