Have you ever smelled something so HORRID, it made you want to SPIT?

Question

I was at work earlier and went into the bathroom and a woman just walked out of the bathroom. I dont know if it was her, but the smell was so disgusting, I spit.

Is something wrong with this reflex?

the smell of death.
i can smell it up to 6 months before the person dies. my entire family has 'it'.

No. There is nothing wrong with it. The reason we smell things is because aroma is made up of molecules that enter our nasal passages, and our mouths. Sometimes, what you smell is actually a taste, and sometimes what you taste is actually a smell. If you hold your nostrils closed and bite into a potato, and then an onion, you won't taste a difference. But if you eat a fresh mushroom, the taste is no different than the smell. So, when you spit, it was because there were enough heavy molecules that you actually tasted it. I bet you feel a lot better now! Sorry. LOL

Since smell affects taste, I think that when the saliva gathers in your mouth after smelling something awful, it leaves the taste in your mouth, so you just spit. Everytime someone lights up a cigarette, I have to spit because I get a nasty taste in my mouth.

there's nothing wrong with what you did thats the basic initial reaction when you smell something horrible. just spit on the tab then, washed. - unless you spitted infront of the person that makes you look obvious you find him/her disgusting thats what you call rudeness. you sounds normal to me. :)

I have. There was a dead cricket that had been dead for abot 1 week and it smelled horrid! and then we got somethin out of the pipe drain and it made me wanna puke it smelled yucky
