Do we all need to just get over ourselves a bit?

Stay with me now; my train of thought may tend to wander.

I realize where I am; Yahoo Answers- Religion. What would one expect to find here other than a lot of Christians and atheists? Oh, yes, I realize other theologies and philosophies are represented, too.

I'm betting that a lot of you (probably more of the non-believers) enjoy a variety of sensual delights. Why? Because they make you feel good, of course. Whether its sex, food, music, nature, indulgence and satiation give you some kind of sense of "peace." So, it would be safe to say that you seek "peace."

And the Christians are filled with their own sense of peace.

Are we not all more alike than different? Don't we all seek a "happy place," but just taking different paths to that same place?

Except for the religious attempts to infiltrate politics, do all of our labels and arguments amount to squat?

Don't we all have our own philosophical/theological "sugar fixes."

for they shall be called the children of god. like ghandi, john lennon, martin luther king jr, mother theresa.

many of us enjoy our own sense of peace without using "sensual" delights to create a sense of peace. even those who are pagan.

yes. it is not the lable or the path. it is simply that one has chosen a road to enlightenment. which road is irrelevant.

'sugar fixes" is a pretty vulgar term, for what can and should be a beautiful and amazing experience.

You could say men are alike and sure, we want the same thing. But reality has a way of kicking you in the butt. Not all beliefs are the same and some beliefs directly call for the destruction of others. Think about it. When in history has there ever been sustained peace? It's always about what people believe. Some people want to rule and others want riches and the list goes on and on. So while a group of people enjoy their 'sensual delights' as you call them, other groups are highly offended by them. And most of the time one of those groups of people who can dominate, do. There will always be struggle. That's life.

You mistake the concept of peace with the concept of satiation. To satiate or be satisfied with something is not peace. The Biblical idea of peace has to do with reconciliation between two people...either two humans or God and man. Therefore, those who seek to bring reconciliation between people find great blessing.

Be careful...this question plays more with semantics of the Bible rather than dealing with real theological problems.

Peace has a price...So those 'PEACENIKS" who clamour for peace need to answer what are they willing to pay for peace? Those who recognize that our current day peace has been paid for by our forefathers know that peace comes at a price, and sometimes you have to have the courage to stand up for what you believe in, for the sake of peace.

Very well put, you've just defined peace, now the real question is how to promote it.

You bet we do... no human being does anything that doesn't benefit them. We all look for our fixes... mine is that I take great joy in knowing that the god-thing is a lie.
