Hi Linda!
I don't like big icons on my desktop neither so lets make them smaller for you!
Close everything and right click on your desktop and click on properties, then go to the appearance tab and click on it. Now at the bottom left you will see the font size click on the little blue v and make sure you have it showing normal in the window in blue if not click on the normal and click apply, this will change the lettering under your icons so it's smaller like your icon's but still can read it.
OK now still in appearance click on the advanced button on your right side and you will see highlighted in blue is desktop, click on the v to the right and click on the icon and to the right you will see a size, the lowest is 16 and the highest is 72, the higher you go the bigger the icon, mine is set at 16 the lowest, you will like that! Don't forget to click "OK" in the advanced board and apply in the display properties board and then OK and out. Maybe right your number that you have down first on paper before you make any changes so you can keep it there if you don't like it?? Get your self a book and right this stuff down so you can go back in there if you have to!! Linda you have a wonderful day! Take care!
Bruce

In the Start menu – look in “Settings” and find your “Control Panel” folder – and click on it. (Or just find the control panel folder, wherever is easiest) – In the Control Panel folder – click on the icon that says “Display” and then select the “Appearance” tab. Go to the section near the bottom called “Item” and click on the down-pointing arrow to the right, which should reveal a drop-down list of choices. Click on “Icon” and then adjust the number in the Size-box over on the right to whatever you prefer. It should probably be currently at 32. Choosing a smaller number, will make your icons smaller, while, selecting a higher number will make them bigger. Click “OK” to effect the changes.
