Soak his feet in warm water to soften the skin. Then with a pair of manicure scissors, nail clippers etc. gently peel off the top layer of skin on the wart. You will see small black dots - very teeny tiny - there might be several in one wart - gently pry them out with a disinfected needle - almost like getting a splinter out. The only way to truly get rid of planters warts is to get these black "seeds" out. Make sure you dispose of them all or they will spread. If you take your time and make sure the skin is moist and soft, and use distraction (icecream, favorite cartoon etc) you should be able to do this and have them gone, gone gone. Good luck

In Australia there are several inexpensive, topical treatments available at your nearest pharmacy over the counter (salicylic acid based). However, I do not know about other countries with regards to schedules and cost. Plantars warts are fairly common and there treatment is usually as easy as other warts apart from the position of them. From experience, the over the counter treatments are very effective but can take a while to work.

Remember that no treatment is 100% effective. If you find that the plantar warts are too large or painful, there are several options of therapy regarding surgery/removal.

Try some over-the-counter treatments to see if they will help shrink the warts...Dr. Scholl's has several different kinds of applications that you can use.

Sometimes though the only thing that will get rid of them is either freezing them off (which has to be done by a dr) or surgery. You may have to bite the bullet and figure out how to get the treatment paid for; talk to your doctor about alternate payments, maybe?

Abby is right in the fact you need to get the black spots out. BUT you do not have to do it the way she recommends (too painful). I have had them and my DR said to use the over the counter liquid stuff (the freeze off hurts!!) and a clean nail file. I'll put the steps below.

1. After a shower use the nail file to rub any excess skin off the affected area.

2. Apply liquid remover and let dry

3. Put a band-aid on the area

It might take a month of doing this every night for them to go away but they will go away. I had a few times where it was too sore to do it. I would stop for several days then start again.

I had 3 of them and the method worked. Good luck!!

This worked for my warts on my hands so please do not let this pass. At KAISER PERMANENT Pharmacy they sell a type of medicated bandage in a 2x4 square, you cut the bandage to the size of the wart, do not cut bigger than the wart because it will burn your sons skin. You just want it to burn off the wart itself. Leave the bandage on for about three days, and replace. The wart should turn white and dissolve. The bandages are inexpensive about 5.00$ for 2 squares. Really this works. I tried everything you could think of and this was the less pain full and the most effective. Actually no pain what so ever. I hope this info helps. God Bless.

Has your doctor tried freezing them off (by surgery, I assume you mean numbing the foot and cutting them out)? I am very surprised your insurance will not cover the removal. Speak with your doctor and ask about alternative coding (other ways to submit it) that they may cover. If they still will not cover it, ask your doctor about making payment arrangements so you can put something toward the bill monthly. If he will not do that, go to a convenient clinic. They are use to patients that have no insurance at all and should be more willing to make payment arrangments. Please, DO NOT waste your time on over-the-counter remedies. If he has multiple large ones, surgery may be the only option. The longer they are there, the worse they will become and the more that will have to be done to remove them (more surface area removed, more scaring)

If your son keeps getting this he is getting out of the shower and the floor is damp and has germs thatwill keep this going forever. dry the feet well always and make sure the floor has a mat down to prevent further outbreaks after they heel. good luck. You can try any over the counter antifungle cream. For about 30 days. If this doesnt work . The dr. is the only step after that. My sister inlaws kids kept them too.

There are wart out systems sold in pharmacy chains. But some warts are stubborn and don't go easily. You may have to do this, get them cut out by a surgeon, there may be more than one, if they are the type that keep coming back.

Ask your pharmacist for a strip of MEDIPLAST. You cut it to fit the wart, it's pretty cheap, and it works. Another cheap way to take care of it (believe it or not my Dr. told me this), is regular old duct tape. Cover the wart completely with the tape and leave it on for a couple days (even while bathing). It'll work after a few treatments. It worked for my kid! :-)
