Ku Klux Klan experiences ‘surprising and troubling resurgence’ in US during the past year due to exploitation of hot issues such as immigration, gay marriage, urban crime, according to report

Ynetnews Published: 02.06.07, 12:37

The Ku Klux Klan has experienced "a surprising and troubling resurgence" in the United States during the past year, an Anti-Defamation League report revealed Tuesday.

According to the report, the white supremacy group has successfully exploited issues such as immigration, gay marriage and urban crime to draw in new members and accelerate activity.

The ADL monitors the activities of hate groups and reports developments to policy makers and law enforcement agencies. ADL Civil Rights Director Deborah M. Lauter pointed to immigration as the key issue stirring up racist sentiments in the United States.

"If any one single issue or trend can be credited with re-energizing the Klan, it is the debate over immigration in America," said Lauter.

"Klan groups have witnessed a surprising and troubling resurgence by exploiting fears of an immigration explosion, and the debate over immigration has, in turn, helped to fuel an increase in Klan activity, with new groups sprouting in parts of the country that have not seen much activity," she added.

A surge in clan activity was identified especially in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The increase in activity was characterized by growing membership, establishment of new groups, increased cooperation with neo-Nazi groups, and new publicity tactics including dispatching flyers, publication over the internet and the launch of an internet! Here it is!!

I saw that membership in the kkk has gone up 68%. That's really frightening that so many people are joining them.
While I am totally against illegal aliens ,I would never support a group of people like the kkk.Just as I would never support racists groups like La Raza Unida or the Brown Berets.
Racialism doesn't have a color. It is a ploy by the liberal media to try to associate the legal Americans to fringe groups like the kkk in order to create more problems.La Raza Unida advocates the killing of all people that are not brown.Do I think all Hispanics hate and want to kill white people ? Of course I don't.Just more biased media at work trying to distort the real issues.

No but then again that is just what the liberal media wants to acheive.
Notice that they are linking a much despised group with the immigration issue, Also notice that nowhere do you see the word illegal. The subliminal message is that if you are anti-illegal immigration you are actually anti-immigration and a KKK sympathizer.

Once again the liberal media is trying to put those that oppose ILLEGAL immigration in the same boat with the KKK.

How many similar stories have you read about LaRaza or Brown Berets? How about MEChA?

Thought so.

Absolutely not, they are the most despicable people in the world. I'm against illegal immigration but that has nothing to do with the low life Klan. That would be an insult to all the family's that have suffered by things the Klan has done.

Who ever said the KKK was an authority on immigration? They need to be kept out of the issue so the population control issue doesn't get clouded by blatant racism.

they pick to go back off as self-righteous. I have not difficulty with criminal immigration. i do not actually have a subject matter with unlawful immigration. My significant difficulty is illegitimate immigration mixed with a welfare state. Many illegals are low-experienced workers and may be extracting extra from the welfare state than giving to it. this can burden to the middle classes via the better classes. those self-righteous warring parties of unlawful immigration are continually very beneficiant even as it includes human beings's funds.

no. but i read the article and watched paula zann on CNN tonight...and it appears that the kkk has seen a 68% rise in memberships over the past few years. and they are using immigration as a marketting tool to recruit new members...scary....that people actually go for it!

Absolutely not.

ETA: Omigosh, four people gave me a thumbs down for saying I won't support the KKK. Interesting crowd we've got here.

I read the same article. KKK membership has gone up 63% in the last 7 years.

I'm against illegal immigration but there is NO way I would ever support those hate-filled maniacs.

Agreeing with a group's stance on one particular issue does not necessitate advocating said group's entire ideology. Also, my reasons for being anti-illegal immigration probably differs from the KKK's.
