12 inches is considered long hair in the hair industry. Trust me I am a hairstylist. And hair that is well taken care of that is 12 inches is long in my business.

From what I've seen, it seems like anything shoulder length or below is considered long. When I go to the hair salon, I like to try new styles, so I'll look in their books and magazines and the long hair books have hair shoulder length and longer.

Any length beyond shoulder length could be considered long. Mid length is between shoulder and lower jaw and short is anything above that.

According to the hairdresser anything past your shoulder is. But they get to charge more if it is 'long' soooo.... I think most people that aren't making money on it would agree that mid-back is long.
