I had a really bad infection and had a tooth pulled but the infection is back. What will get rid of the bacteria before I loose all my teeth! I did 7 days on Erythromycin three weeks ago and its back with a vengence. I am seeing the dentist tommorrow but really don't want another tooth pulled, it hurt really bad last time because it couldn't get numbed all the way. I can't take pills or penicillin. What should I do....I don't want it to get worse just to go away.

It sounds like you just need a stronger antibiotic. Suggest this to your dentist because he may not offer and may just give you another round of the same antibiotics. You may also ask about having an antibiotic injection to jumpstart the medication. By injecting antibiotics into your bloodstream they start to work much faster. Good Luck

You better ask your dentist a lot of questions when you go for a visit. Maybe there are things that you havent thoroughly discussed and it is our right as a patient to be well informed about our health. Ask about any follow up medicine after you finished taking those antibiotics. Maybe you have some foods to avoid during your treatment (like hard or too salty and irritating foods). Dont forget to use antiseptic gargles too esp if you have pulled a tooth. Infection readily sets into the gum cavity and could complicate things and make matters worse. Take care, good luck, and God bless.

It is very likely that you just need a stronger antibiotic or a longer dose may be necessary. It is also possible that another area is infected.

If it is another tooth...don't give up hope! You may just need root canal treatment. You will be put on antibiotics again. Please make sure you take them as directed!

As for right now...DO NOT rinse w/ perioxide. This can "burn your gums. Instead, rinse with a solution of warm water and salt. This will decrease infectious bacteria. Rinse after meals and after brushing.

You'll be fine! Good luck tomorrow!

You probably won't need another tooth pulled. The dentist will probably put you on anti-biotics again. Ask him about swishing peroxide or salt water in your mouth.
