Before or after the divorce?

Unfortunately there is no such thing as an average wedding anymore. There is a wide spectrum between the cheapest and the most lavish. And there tends to be no diminitive reasons why one takes the low road and one the high.
You find poor people spending a small fortune on their wedding and you find well-to-do families spending far less or even running away to get married in Vegas or Hawaii.

My neighbor owned a Wedding Service and I heard all the stories. Some spending up to $150,000. Others trying to have a lavish wedding but cutting every corner possible. Many had themes and it depended on the theme as to the cost. Like a wedding theme of: western, tropical, nature, asian, animal,
jungle and more.
The price of your wedding depends on these factors:

Church or hall or outdoor location
How desirable is that location (historical, isolated and such).
Size of guests
Cost of Flowers
Cost of Reverand
Cost of dress and tux
Cost of Reception Hall
Cost of Band, DJ or Music
Cost of Food
Cost of Decorations
Cost of Liquor Served
Cost of Incidentals

You can keep the costs down by getting married in a church, and having the reception in a relatives yard. Someone can make the food and the cake and you can get decorations at a Party Store.
Watch for sales on the wine and liquor. And you can even buy stunning wedding gowns on Ebay.
So the answer to your question for Average Wedding is about $20-$30 thousand for basic. But I hate to quote prices when every town and city can be different and you need to make a plan.
The plan will determine the costs.

My neighbor worked hard to pull these Weddings off and make them special for the couple. When I asked her what was the worst part of the job, guess what she said; " Pleasing the Bride and her Mother". Many were rude, bitchy, and spoiled. They were never satisfied with anything. Such a sorry way to start a life. Dont let this happen to yours.

Aside from all the statistics online, the biggest factor on how much you spend on your wedding is how much you do yourself and how much you put out for hire. The biggest thing to do is to shop around -- find the best price and make sure it's good quality too. I messed up and had a terrible tasting cake (even though it looked beautiful -- it tasted like dirt). And if you can stick to a budget, that will also help keep the cost down.

I don't know the average cost but 20 G's is out of the question for me. I plan on getting married next year and to be honest $10,000 is my limit. If I can get it less expensive than that I will definitely try. Think about it? 20/30 G's for a 15 to 20 minutes ceremony............I don't think so.

There's lots of stats on the net....but there is no such thing, in my opinion, as an average---the reason is that there are as many ways to get hitched as there are brides. The real question is, what are the five most important things to YOU? then, give yourself enough time to do a lot of research, ask a lot of questions and be willing to talk with people who have already been there...there are lots of clever ways to get the wedding of your dreams without spending the rest of your life in debt....

I suggest visiting online website such as

http://www.weddinglenox.com ,weddingvendors.com ,onewed.com

Unlike most yellow pages, they have price comparison for the vendors (DJ,videographer, florist, and photographer) you can choose.

You can also try Weddinglenox matching system http://www.weddinglenox.com/membersignup... that will match you up with local vendors. I tried it and have good result as I only recieved email from vendors according to my request.

One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that's too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.

The sites I provide above have a easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page plus, you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That save me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.

I was actually wondering the same thing the other day. According to this site, it was approx. $22,000 in 2002. This site also breaks down costs into categories of rings, stationary, dress, photos, etc.

good grief, just reading the answers makes me cringe....$20,000 and up....don't spend that kind of money.....you can have a beautiful wedding for much less. Make sure you take as much time planning your marriage as you are the wedding.....make your own invitations, I have gotten several over the past few years that were much better than any store bought; create your own bouquets.....and so forth....
