The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

This was the "real" Bible quote, not the 1611 English translation.

LOL! The Catholic church doesn't allow them to marry, so if they are celibate then they cannot engage in homosexuality. How could he say that and not realize the hypocrisy of that statement?

Since this is still an open questions - that is exactly what it says in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which is a book pretty much laying out the Church's teaching

"The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection. "

He is right, that is the RC Church's position. A person can not help being homosexual, but should not act on the impulses. A homosexual should remain celibate as do all unmarried people. This is true. Our society has gone to hell in a hand-basket the past 35 or so years when it come to sexually promiscuous behavior.

That is the position of the Catholic Church on sex outside of marriage. Sex outside of marriage is fornication which the Bible condemns.
1 Corinthians 6,13
The body is not for fornication, but for the Lord.
1 Corinthians 6,18
He that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Romans 8,13
If ye live after the flesh, ye shall die.
Galatians 5,13
Use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh.
Have a great day

That is absolutely in agreeance with the teachings of the bible. Homosexual men and women are no more sinners than heterosexual men and women.

The bible (and Leviticus in particular) says it is a sin to 'lie with a man as you would with a woman'...meaning to have sex with a member of the same sex. Homosexual sex is a sin. Just like adultery (extramarital sex in today's language).

So, what imacatholic2 says is, in fact, biblically correct (and the way that the Catholic Church views and distinguishes the difference between the person and the sinful sexual act).

Well, think about it -if they are """celibate""" then they have not sinned. Its the big "if" part that gets them every time.
If you read Romans 1: about 24 and following, it says that sinful people "become" homosexual. So, it must be a sin. BTW, the Catholic church also believes in evolution. They also protect clergy who has sodomized little boys. So I don't put too much in what any catholic believes. Most of them know less about what they believe, than people on the outside know about them.

I guess to really answer your question-that just goes to show what kind of attitude is required to have a high score on Yahoo. "BroJohn" would have a high score too like 'imacatholic' , but he has a different opinion of homosexuals-thats why his account was closed.
Think on this---

It makes sense to me. I see nothing in the Bible which would condemn being a homosexual if one never acted upon those thoughts. I think this is what the Catholic Church is stating.

I have heard (frequently) that this is the Catholic church's stance on homosexuality. Most religions do teach celibacy before marriage, but this day and age, I believe they know very few adhere.

Obviously, the Bible says different than a quote from "imacatholic". The Bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin, and seperates you from God, just as any other sin does. It is wrong, and the Bible is clear on that. Anyone trying to twist that doctrine, is a lunatic.

Yes, EVERYONE is called to celibacy. For the little 12 year olds in this question:

Celibacy: Refraining from sex until AFTER marriage.

I can tell you one thing, God loves celibacy. It is meant to keep us pure and away from sin.

The questioner did not cite the passage from the Catechism of the Catholic Church as I did in my answer: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.htm#2356

The Catechism clearly states that:
+ A homosexual tendency is a condition not a sin.
+ A homosexual act is a sin.

With love in Christ.
