If what you are asking is .... You don't have maple syrup and need a substitute you can use 2 pounds white or brown sugar and 1 3/4 cups of water. Place in a small stock pot put over medium heat and allow the sugar to dissolve. After the sugar has dissovled boil for about 10 to 15 minutes until you have the consistency of honey then add a few drops vanilla or maple flavoring.

I believe brown sugar would work well. I usually do the brown sugar and soy sauce mixture like I do with maranade. What are you using it for?
