I fit all the criteria for anorexia nervosa (BMI of 14, no menstruation, obsession with food, afraid to eat out, etc.) except I eat 1100 calories a day (unless I know I will have to eat out with family/friends etc, then I fast the day before to compensate). Do I have an eating disorder, or am I just being overdramatic about dieting? Is it possible to be anorexic when you are eating 1100 calories a day?

In response to if I am experiencing the effects of starvation, I am having cold sensitivity, gastrointestinal difficulties, kidney stones, constipation, acid reflux, and a slowed small intestine. However, I am eating a decent amount, and I'm not sure I can fit the "disorder" label.

The criteria for anorexia say nothing about how many calories you actually need to consume.
If you have lost approx 20% of your original body weight and have no periods as well as, most importantly, are extremely preoccupied with food, losing wt and feeling fat, then yes, it is anorexia.
Everyone's metabolism is different so obviously 1100 cal is too little for your body to be functioning normally as exemplified by loss of menstruation (a normal body function of a post-pubertal female).
You do not have to be on the verge of cardiac arrest to have the disorder but you could definitely use some treatment

With a BMI of 14, you are VERY UNDERWEIGHT. Dangerously so. 1100 calories is not enough because you are not maintaining a healthy weight. Since you mention fasting, it sounds like you have a problem with food. Get yourself to the doctor. Maybe you're not anorexic, but there is something wrong.

I would say that you do have an eating disorder, especially when you have a BMI of 14. Seeing a therapist would definitely be a good idea at this point if you aren't already. You are definitely at a dangerous weight and it would be considered an eating disorder, because there is nothing that says in order to be anorexic you can only take in so many calories.

Nah, anorexia is like starving yourself like 200-500 cals a day, so you are not extreme enough to be anorexic...1100 a day just requires a little bit of self discipline.

despite the fact that some said no you font, i disagree, anorexia has nothing to do with the amount of calories you eat, anorexia is an obsession with losing weight and obsession with food, just the fact that you are aware of the amount of calories you are consuming each day make me worry, you are underweight and periods are gone so all in all id say yes you do have an eating disorder

starvation shows earlier than most with some people. if you can already see it's effects despite what is said as with normal limits set for adequate nutrition, by your own mouth. with the 1100, or fasting prior to eating out. you have told us all the path you are on.
now, it's up to you, is what your doing to yourself causing harm?
if it is, maybe the deffination you are looking for is only right before your eyes.

Not really anorexia, but it sounds like you could be on the way to developing an eating disorder. Please talk to someone about getting some help before it progresses into something that will be much more difficult to deal with.

it sounds like you may not be having a major problem, but you seem to be needing to feel as if you have control over your life. Are you being physically or emotionally abused?
