As the amount of oil dwindles, other energy sources will become more economical. As increased use makes more research feasible, the efficiency of these competing energy sources will increase, eventually becoming cheaper than oil has ever been. Hopefully, the environment will recover as the carbon ratio balances out, in time. All will be well. Return to your scheduled work duties immediately.

Well, the bottomline is it is unlikely that it will be replaced with a cheaper alternative. Which means energy is going to be alot more expensive.

But long before we burn the last drop of oil the price will increase to the point where alternatives will be more economical.

We will never run out of oil, it'll just become very hard to find and expensive. Very expensive, but as long as we use it, there will always be oil

Hypothetically we drained off the last barrel, then we'd scramble to find alternate fuel, ie. corn, coke-cola
