Right now I currently live in California and about 6 weeks pregnant, im moving to either Arizona or Oregon on the 28th of this month (my fiance hasnt decided which would be a better place to live) Im signing up for medi-cal but since im moving wouldnt it just be better to wait and get whatever the state insurance is wherever im moving?

my question is what is the insurance provided by the state called for Arizona? Oregon? because medi-cal is just for california right?

thank you!

Oregon doesn't have Medicaid, they have a replacement program called the Oregon Health Program. Not everyone is quailfied to be on this program, but pregnant women fall under different guidelines that the normal health care applicant, so this works in your favor.

Your first concern should be for the health of the child so I recommend you first apply for Medi-Cal and see a doctor. If this is not possible, then I would go to a pharmacy or drug store and begin taking prenatal vitamins or a good multivitamin with extra folate so that it is the same benefits as a prenatal.

The link below tells you all about the process and eligibility for OHP.

The medical coverage by the state is going to be called Medicaid. That's the name of the program itself and it's nationwide. California must just call it "Medi-Cal". In Michigan, they refer to it just as Medicaid but you get a "MI Health Card" (MI for Michigan but pronounced MY), it's funny how they try to be all cutesy.

And yes, if you're going to move in the next 2-3 wks, it probably would be easier and you're only 6 wks. I wouldn't worry too much. Plus, if anything happens Medicaid will go back typically up to 3 months and pay the bills.

I'm not 100% on this but I have heard that Arizona is a "RIght to Work" state. They have NO public aid. No medical help and no food programs. I could be wrong but perhaps you should check to see which state has the better aid programs?
