Do you mean a civil discussion about differently held beliefs or a screaming, hair-pulling (hopefully our own hair) melee? Lots of topics can generate discussion, but dogmatic statement of beliefs in religious, political (abortion, entitlement programs, capital punishment) or social issues can start people firing back with their own positions.

concentrate on a known controversial subject where the views are widely known then go against the views ... happens quite often here under the assumption it shows intelligence ...
