You're not a loser. Take some classes outside of school, like ballroom dancing, martial arts, or something. Mix with people of all ages, so you won't be too self-conscious about people your own age.

I was very shy, then I got a job in sales. I had to approach people and ask them questions, it was awful!! You just have to do it, walk right up to someone and say hi. It's not as bad as you think. Listen to what people are saying, then ask them questions that are relevant to them. If you see some guy that has an I pod ask him who he's listening to, then who his favorite band is. If you see a girl walking around and she has a cute purse, tell her. People love compliments and they love to talk about things they like. If you are too shy for that, start with the service industry people (you know the cashier at McDonalds, the sales girl at Macy's) When they say hi to you, say hi back and make sure to ask them how they're doing, look them in the eye. Baby steps. They can't be mean to you or you could get them fired. Good luck!

go to a nightclub, paint your face with facepaints, wearing a mask can give you the confidence to do anything, once you have the confidence with the mask, you have to do it without,

doesn't have to be a nightclub, since your 17. a costume to hide behind, and act out your other side.

doesn't have to be a Halloween costume if you don't want to, a new sexy dress would do just as well, and once you get the attention you want, remember that you have to stay in control.

One confidence building exercise is to go somewhere high and yell at the to of your lungs
"I am the ruler of the world" or something similar
sounds silly, but it works, if you can do it without caring what people think, then you are a step forward.

I used to have this same problem when I was younger. I coulsnt even pay for a drink at the counter I was so shy. It could be anxiety too you know. You should go to the doc. You might benefit from some anti-anxiety meds like Paxil. The best way to get over it is to involve your self in something to make you feel better. Like joiing a gym or something like that. I kno its very hard...but in time you will get better. I for one am still shy...but alot better than i used to be. Good luck

For one, you think to yourself a loser, that is doing alot of stuff to your shyness, for instance... if you believe you are a loser then you will act shy around people because you dont see yourself on the same level as them, you need to boost your confidence, if you were a male i could reccomend you to take up "pick up" which is a way being sociable with women

but your best bet for learning confidence is pushing yourself to talk to people with the mindset of "just do it"

and NLP which helps you with techniques to build confidence skills

I used to be very shy too. When I was in high school, I made all of my friends from the clubs I was in. Find something you are interested in, and join in. You will be more comfortable around people that share the same interests as you. Eventually, you will forget your shyness, and just be yourself around them. And I don't mean just at school, try at your church (if that is your thing), your local parks and recreation department, etc.

you might have a social anxiety disorder.
Go to talk to your dr. He can prescribe you medication for social anxiety. zoloft is one of them
by the way you are not a loser. if you are shy, something that you gone through in the past made you shy...you can get over it.
Also there are many programs out there that help social anxiety
good luck

i am super shy too (ahh i feel your pain). but at school i joined a few clubs and groups and got to know more of my peers. Yes it is scary to join something at first, but that is probably one of the best ways to break some of the shyness.
