same as anywhere, i saw a lot of hip hop style and like the 80's where a lot of kids are in to sports apparel and they really really want the new nikes and air jordans. There are artsy dressers and rockers and buisiness people. I even saw some pictures of punk rockers but never met any.

There are some old styles still available, that you associate from kung fu movies. Tang dynasty style overcoats like a suit coat are easy to find and these things still float in fancy dress like wedding dresses and stuff. The older folks say these never go out of style but are considered historical like colonial style clothing to us.

Until the recent few years, they mostly dressed not very stylish. Men had transluscent polyester shirts and women had stockings that go to just below the knee.

Now in major cities, especially Shanghai, they dress more like Europeans and much better than us Americans.

i spent 7 weeks in guangzhou in the past year, young chinese people like to wear things that have american words on them, middle age chinese people wear clothes like we would wear if we went to church, but no ties. i think americans could learn a lot from the chinese.
