Indoor cats can easily live up to 14 years and some live to be over 20. Outdoor cats have a much shorter life expectancy due to the risk of disease, being hit by cars, getting into fights, etc.

My male cat is an indoor/outdoor cat neutered but not declawed (so inhumane from my point of view). He will be 10 yrs in May and healthy as can be. I keep him up-to-date on every vaccination out there including heartworm/flea/tick meds. Maybe it's because the bond between us is very strong, don't know for sure but only time he leaves the yard is when he sees me walking down the street and follows meowing pitifully to come back. Only goes so far then comes back home to wait for me. I expect him to be around for another few years at least. Besides, he's too ornery to die. lol

I think cats generally live about 15 years if they are well-cared for. My own tabby was both indoor and outdoor and lived 12 years. Keep in mind she was spayed, declawed, and well-fed and was never seriously injured besides a fight or two.

I've known house cats (strictly house cats) to live for a very long time if well taken care of. I've heard of one living to be 20! Outside cats can run into many dangers, I don't ever recommend anyone let their cats go outside at all. Cars, predators, diseases can all cut their life spans short outdoors.
