Go online to 1800saveapet.com. There are all sorts of pure bred dogs and puppies looking for a home, that have been abandoned at shelters or given to adoption agencies, and you can see a good number of them there. I adopted my dog through a rescue group on that website and the cost was $250. However, for puppies it's usually more because most people only want puppies, leaving somewhat older dogs out in the cold. :(

BTW: You don't need to get a pure bred dog to see how big it will get if you get a young adult dog, or get a mixed small breed dog. Going through puppyhood sucks anyway.

I have experience with terriers. Terriers are very hearty and good with kids, loving and affectionate. The only 'iffy' thing with terriers is that some of them always bark, some of them bark only when they hear a strange noise, sound or see something that attracts their attention and then you have those that can be as quiet as church mice. Terriers are kinda like a box of chocolates with regard to barking. Another great breed but slightly bigger than you might want (31 to 40 pounds) is the lesser known PBGV (Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen). PBGVs are small, extremely smart and love people but, as a hound, should always be on a lead......unless you train the dog very well. See source links

I know where you can get a ACA registered Pekingese puppy for
about $125. The breeder is in the Little Rock, Arkansas area.
I bought mine from her, she'd probably ship the dog to you.
The breeder is Havana Silks.

I don't know about Chihuahuas or Yorkies, but perhaps you should consider a mini dachshunds. They are full of personality, are small, and are the cutest things EVER

Check out your local animal shelters. They have lots of small dogs. Maybe not purebreds, but unless you want it for breeding purposes, that shouldn't matter. You just want a friend, right?

Please,Please, if you want a small dog,or any dog and don't want to spend alot of money, please consider a rescue dog. Look up infodog.com and look under rescue. There are many pure breed dogs that are desperately looking for loving homes.Cheers Bogey

You could check the shelters or animal rescue groups in your area. They may have just what you are looking for.

this is really cheap, and i don't think a pet store even sells them for that much- not that you should buy from their anyway(puppymills) a breeder deff. would not sell a dog that cheap so i think your best bet would be a rescue try www.petfinder.com
