Much of the debate is misinformation from abortion opponents and those who only read a few of the facts.
Stem cells are primal cells common to all multi-cellular organisms that retain the ability to renew themselves through cell division and can differentiate into a wide range of specialized cell types. Research in the human stem cell field grew out of findings by Canadian scientists Ernest A. McCulloch and James E. Till in the 1960s.
The three broad categories of mammalian stem cells exist: embryonic stem cells, derived from blastocysts, adult stem cells, which are found in adult tissues, and cord blood stem cells, which are found in the umbilical cord. In a developing embryo, stem cells are able to differentiate into all of the specialized embryonic tissues. In adult organisms, stem cells and progenitor cells act as a repair system for the body, replenishing specialized cells.
As stem cells can be readily grown and transformed into specialised tissues such as muscles or nerves through cell culture, their use in medical therapies has been proposed. In particular, embryonic cell lines, autologous embryonic stem cells generated through therapeutic cloning, and highly plastic adult stem cells from the umbilical cord blood or bone marrow are touted as promising candidates.
Opponents to its use in research complain that such uses will lead to harvesting babies for their cells or some such nonsense.

Okay I am a Catholic (and I believe even a fetus is 'human' as soon as it is conceived) so I can't 'approve of' using 'fetal stem cells' to do 'stem cell research' because that means that the 'fetus (child) has been 'murdered' ... but I do 'approve of' using 'non-fetal' stem cells for research and development ... but only if it comes from tissue that could never 'be a human' even though it is 'human tissue.' I also don't believe in the Death Penalty, or in 'abortion' (although I do think that each woman should have the right to 'make that decision' on her own, even if it disagrees with what I think) ... and I'm sorry if you think that it 'must be fetal stem cells' that will cure these diseases, when the 'simple fact is' that it is just 'simpler' to get and use 'fetal stem cells' than it is to get them from 'truly throw-away' parts of us.

Abortion will be criminal although that is incorrect and evil and outright homicide to an probability free unborn newborn. imagine about it that kid will under no circumstances see daytime or snicker or journey a motorbike or appreciate having acquaintances or comprehend the affection of a figure. This unborn newborn will under no circumstances comprehend the flaws that we take with none interest in our customary lifes. Plus that kid is torn to products in the course of the abortion that is between the strategies that is killed ripped limb from limb. So for this reason i imagine stem cellular analyze is inaccurate also. after all you've already brought with reference to the unborn toddler a lot misery and soreness and brought that is existence from it so a minimum of go away their undesirable bodies on my own. Abortion and Stem cellular analyze are only yet another truly one of mankind's vile and harsh and evil issues. I pray that God could have mercy on all of human beings that get abortions and performance had abortions. i'm happy that those undesirable little ones will stay with him and heaven continually. i'd no longer make it there myself who's popular with yet a minimum of they could. only so that you comprehend no newborn is an coincidence all of them come right here with a purpose yet some under no circumstances have the prospect to fulfill there purpose by way of cruelty of mankind. sometime that is going to come to bypass that we may be able to ought to account for the flaws we've carried out and on condition that we are extremely sorry and regretful for those products will we be forgiven. i comprehend that there are some who will see this in yet in a unique way than me together with atheist and human beings of non-christian or maybe some christian religions although that is superb interior the top of time it would want to come to bypass that what i trust is inaccurate yet i do not care because i'm chuffed for now. nicely there you've my opinion.

Stem Cells are often the products of abortions and some people think that supporting stem cell research would be tantamount to supporting abortion.

Only the fundy right, super christians, define a human at conception. Even doctors don't regard a clump of cells as human until it is viable --- i.e., able to live one its own... (Up to then, it is a parasite.....) You can be sure other countries are working on stem cell research, and people (americans) will go to those countries for treatment. And our researchers work on it as well, it is just not government funded because we have an idiot in the white house.. Our problem in this country is to get the government to govern, and to stay out of laboratories, out of your bedroom and mine, out your doctor's office, out of the classroom and out of wars of crusades, and to stop lying to us....... and we will get that when our congress gets up on its hind legs and starts saying something and doing something while this Nazi runs our government........

I don't see anything wrong with it. I am pro-choice and as long as a fetus can not survive without living off of the mother it's technically a parasite. I also don't understand why people can't see that yes, one might be ending one potential life but at the same time they are saving thousands of other lives.
