it is all of our ultimate fate, and yet we flee from it as if it is to be feared. It is eternal rest.

More details: life sucks. For me at least, it will be better when it is over and a well deserved rest, whatever that means. I have two sons to raise, but I have no intention of being around much longer than it takes for them to reach adulthood. I am a mistake, I am not made to be here. That's why I think death is better than life. And spouting the saved in christ stuff to me isn't going to work either. He has cursed me while I am here. Why should the afterlife be any different.

You know you're asking for this...

Then go commit suicide!

Just kidding. But honestly, I have no idea why you're asking this question, because life can be pretty excellent. What's the rush? There's plenty to do before you rest.

You'll have plenty of time to be dead, go ahead and live for as long as you can. Work hard, invest wisely, and live long enough to collect social security. Then go on and live so long that you spend more years collecting social security and your pension than you actually spent working! Beat the system. Life is just a game. People "flee" from death because they don't WANT to rest yet!

Yes life is terminal, this means that every moment we have as living creatures should be lived to the utmost. It is such a short span there is never enough time to explore,to love ,to feel the wind on your face. Each life ends;but to waste it by simply waiting for the end is sheer foolishness.
Eternal rest is only a synonym for eternal silence totally devoid of sense or self. We become food for the worms;and the only eternal life to follow is how you are remembered by those you leave behind. Don't waste the time you have get out and live before its too late..

It's a gamble, literally, about who is born. It was a VERY slim chance that you were born. But you were... the sperm that won and fertilized your mother's egg resulted in you. ANY other of those other thousands of sperms would have resulted in a completely different person. Life is SO precious. Every person really is unique. Life is better than death. It is to be enjoyed before our inevitable fate.

*edit* Wow... I was thumbed down for being positive?! The world is ending as we know it...

How can death be better then life? There's nothing like being alive! Even if there is some sort of afterlife, how would you know it's better ? Have you been there to see for yourself? Life is wonderful and I would rather be here and alive then anywhere else.

I have seen more people die than I can count- literally. And I can tell you that there is good death and bad death. I have seen it with my own eyes. Those who die in Christ suffer less pain and anguish. They usually slip away between one breath and the next. They are at peace in their souls and die without fear. Those who die without Christ die bad deaths. They linger on in agony, fearing to let go. They suffer more physical and emotional pain. They are truly pitiful to watch in their final days and hours. They break your heart. So as to your question, is death better than life, I would say that it depends on the nature of the death. Will you die with Christ, or without him? It makes a difference.

I think what you are trying to say is that most people are afraid to die. We can't face the sick and dying (they are hidden away in hospices and nursing homes-dying alone), we can't let those that want to die because of severe illness or pain give up the ghost, we don't like to talk about it (it's morbid, for goodness' sake). etc.

You are asking why we are so afraid of it-why human immortality would be the optimum.

I agree. And I can't wait to die so I can choose my next grand adventure! But while I'm here, I'm enjoying the "living" hell out of it!

I prefer life, but am realistic to realize that it must end at some point. I agree that it is not something to be feared, but nor is it something to imagine into being something else. It is the cessation of life, not "eternal rest".

I don't fear death in the least bit. Paul said it best when he said in scripture: To live is Christ but to die is gain. Heaven is infinitely better than Earth.

Why would it be? Its neither better, nor worse. It just is. Part of the cycle of life. Everything that lives must die. And everything that begins must end.
