Like most nuts, cashews are high in fat, but are a healthy food in moderation. A small handful a day would be a good rule of thumb. (small handful... not heaping... about a quarter cup)
The fats in cashews are mostly unsaturated fats, and much of that is the same type of fat that is in olive oil and has been shown to lower triglyceride levels. But still... too much of a good thing can be bad too, so don't go nuts. (sorry... that was an easy pun)

I LOVE cashews but they are very fattening like most nuts. Although your on a diet, having a small handful once or twice a week wont hurt at all, if anything it can help. We crave foods we love and if we deny ourselves of them, when we do eat them we go way overboard. So enjoy but not too much.

Yes they are, but it's a good fat and a good carb.
I have been on the South Beach Diet - and nuts are allowed as a snack. Dependiing on the size of the cashew - 10 medium sized cashews is what they recommend but I wouldnt eat them everyday...

Cashews are healthy - but dont only consume cashews... eat them along with other nuts as well like almonds raisins etc. bcoz each nut has different calorie count & also they all have different benefits. Yes, cashews have the highest calorie count. it will give you strength but will not help u reduce weight. you can consume all the dry fruits after your two meal intervals. They are pretty filling so whenevr hunger stikes (untimely) consume these nuts. They support ur body during ur dieting regime! so be happy, u can put urself on a strict diest & whenever u feel hungry consume nuts (not only cashews)...
Happy dieting & wishing u good health!
take care...

All nuts are fattening. Even though it is healthy fat, try to limit your consumption of cashews and other nuts. Roughly about 2-4 nuts per day is alright.

Yes very fattening. If you dont believe me read the fat content in the nutrition table on a bag of nuts. People say nuts are a health food and this is because they lower the cholesterol in your blood. But they are still very fattening (many varieties are 50% fat) so they are not good for weight loss. Only eat a small amount of them.

Just want to confirm the previous answer. All nuts are high in fat, but they are healthy fats, very good for your heart. But yes, a small handful a day is a good rule of thumb. Raw and unsalted make them much better for you as well. Use them to top different entrees or as a small snack in between meals. But never set a carton out in front of you, especially while watching TV or on the computer...too easy to eat way more than you intended to.
