I'm a 17 years old hispanic girl and I go to a high school that's very racially separated. Over the past few months, I've gotten to know this guy (he's african american) he's a really cool guy and I really like him and I want to be with him but I'm afraid of what people might sat, especially my friends. The school is divided between hispanics and african americans, and I'm afraid that my friends will give me the cold shoulder or that everyone else will be against us.

Haha, this is perfect. I am half black half hispanic, so this is just great. Obviously my parents must have been able to set aside the racial border for some time or another, or I wouldn't be in EXISTENCE now!! :)
So tell everyone this: you have to learn to be colorblind. No one can help being the race they are. Some of you were born black, some were born hispanic. Does that matter? No. You're all still people, every one of you is still beautiful and unique in their own way. And YOU are the smartest of all of them, because you already ARE colorblind!!!!! Otherwise you wouldn't even have looked twice at that guy. So go ahead: get to know him better, go out if you like. Don't care about what other people think, because in the long run, you will come out on top. Good luck babe :)

1) if you really like the guy, and you feel like he could be a long term boyfriend, go out with the guy. He is also probably worried the same thing as you are.
2) talk about this with him if you haven't already. Sometimes the guy might know the answer all along.
3) if they are your true friends, they'd want you to be happy, and if being happy is being with him, then follow your heart and don't give a crap what anyone else says.

if you really care that much about what others think then you're really NOT ready to date. who cares if he's black if he treats you great, has all the qualities you're' looking for then who cares what others think. and home-girl, the last time i check Hispanics are also BLACK so i would suggest you do your research. Also, if you do decide to give this guy a chance and your friends bother you about it then clearly they are not your true friend cause a real friend would always be supportive and happy for their friend success or happiness.

Chica, if they give you the cold shoulder they aren't your real friends. I can understand your problem and I'm going through the same situation. My boyfriend is Hispanic and I'm Black. I love him to death but a lot of people are opposed to our relationship. But they don't matter to me. Only he does.

don't care what ppl will say or do. If this guy is the one - and only if you know that you're like probably gonna marry him - then follow your heart. It might hurt, it might be a risk, but maybe it's risk worth taking.

btw why are you asking a bunch of losers like us on our opinion for something that could change your life? :) wink

Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Anyone who cannot respect your decision is not really your friend.
