(They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): so take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (from what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks. Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty (Of peace), or those who approach you with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (guarantees of) peace, then Allah hath opened no way for you (to war against them).

Others you will find that wish to gain your confidence as well as that of their people: every time they are sent back to temptation, they succumb thereto; if they withdraw not from you nor give you (guarantees) of peace besides restraining their hands, seize them and slay them wherever ye get them; in their case We have provided you with a clear argument against them.) (An-Nisaa’ 4: 89-91)

Bukhari (52:260) - "...The Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.'
Sura (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them"

There is no compulsion or coersion in the islamic faith. Just remember .this is very important- Interpreters do not make the basis for islam.Quran does. the majority of muslims dont believe or practice what the scholars advocate that is not in the Quran. So if they suggest something that is not common sense or abusive,it just get ignored as "Bid?a"-self-invented,the prophet warned against that and promised hell for those inventors/deviators. During prophet muhammed's time some apostats are left and were not charged or anything but others were. Why ? This is a problem with some muslim interpreters when they tackle a subject that Quran is silent about it,they take stuff out of context and its general meaning. What happened was that those apostats didnt only change religion but allegiance and joined the enemy as spies, some for money and wealth, others were actually never really muslims in the first place just so they can penetrate the army. This selection shows that penalty was not meant to apply to a simple change of faith but to punish acts such as treason, joining forces with the enemy and sedition. This is still true today, the majority of those who leave islam do it to gain some economic priviledge(money,a visa to a western country,a job, etc). They have very little knowledge of islam because their parents are uneducated, heavy drinkers, abusive of their wives or they are poor and orphans or their mothers are poor, divorced, abused and or morally loose. And of course, they know zip about Christianity or any other religion.

I am a christian and as far as I know there is no punishment. You become a christian by your own free will and you can decide not to by your own free will as well. After doing some research I have found that some Islamic countries (not all) such as Saudia Arabia demand the death penalty for apostasy in Islam. Sorry I do not have scriptures to support my answer.

Well, to be honest for the Islam, it's death.
For Christianity, nothing.
