Answering a question like that is hard and takes a very long response to be of any real assistance, but tell your friend that
life is not as black and white as some would suggest and the
heart is where your friend will find the answers. Tell your friend to
be kind to himself and know that the true God of this Universe loves all of us especially in times of great anguish, and no matter what his decision is God will help him/her through it.

God made your friend a man. God knew what he was doing. The world may not think much of your friend's manliness, but the Lord uses the weak ones in this world that the glory may go entirely to Him, and his power can be seen by all.
If your friend had the surgery, the pills, the wardrobe change, etc, he would not become a woman, he would be a mutilated man. He will have done great harm to his in rejecting what God gave him.
God says John is a man, and God believes it. I believe that if John continues in faith and looks to God for his guidence and security, he will come to believe it too. I think even you will. God had power and can do great things for those who trust in Him.
Yes, I think he would be defying God's laws if he turned into a girl. He would be effeminate, and putting on that which pertains to a woman. He would also be rebelling against God's plan for Him. God does have one.
I know John's pain must be really intense right now, being young and in school is no help, I'm sure, but i believe strongly in God's power to work in and through this man.

P.S. Though, God may not choose to work this way, but, has John seen a doctor about this problem? Sometimes there are hormanal imbalances that are treatable if one can work up the nerve to talk to a doctor.
I'll say a prayer for both of you.

Yeah, she probably would be in most religions. All the more reason that she should not believe in most religions. She should embrace her beliefs.
