The main treatment for gingivitis is to remove the harmful bacterial growth from the teeth and gums. This will include one session containing dental cleaning with fluoride along with oral hygiene instruction. Good brushing for a minimum of twice a day and after meals for at least two minutes. Start cleaning between your teeth. Periodontal disease begins between the teeth. The area between the teeth is more prone to infection than facial or tongue gum tissue surfaces simply by anatomy. Since the disease starts between the teeth, it makes sense to start cleaning in between the teeth and than brush.

You can clean this area with interdentally brushes, picks, sticks, oral irrigation, and automatic flossier. Remember this disease needs to be treated both in the office and at home. Do not smoke or use alcoholic beverages while your gums are inflamed. Good dietary habits and cut back on foods and beverages that contain sugar definitely help to contain gingivitis. Gingivitis is the only stage of gum disease that can be completely reversed to a healthy undamaged condition. More advanced gum disease can often be controlled but damage to the teeth’s bone support cannot be reversed or rebuilt. It is vital that gum disease be stopped and reversed in its earliest stages.

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums caused by poor dental hygiene. If you never brushed your teeth, and flossed them, that is why you have it, because bacteria in your mouth have been having a party for a long time, and it will take a long time to get your gums back to health.
You need to see a dentist at least once a year, every year for the rest of your life. You need to brush your teeth at a minimum of two minutes for twice a day. Three times a day if you can manage it, especially after meals. And you need to floss your teeth every day, period.
Your brushing technique may be faulty too, so if you have not had your teeth looked at and professionally cleaned recently, then you need to make an appointment sooner than later. Gingivitis can lead to periodontal disease, tooth and bone loss, and you don't want that.

You won't die of gingivitis but it can lead to serious problems. You should see a dentist because it can also be related to a health problem. Gingivitis if left untreated can be turned in to periodontal disease. Which leads to problems like bad breath and sometimes a metallic taste in the mouth. Also is related to health problems such as diabetes or if really serious heart conditions.
Bacteria that is living in your gums needs to be removed by a good cleaning, which consists of scaling and good oral hygiene instructions.
Use a soft bristle brush and dont brush harshly. Keep flossing everyday for the rest of your life and the use of listerine rinse will help as well.

There is actually no way to 'get rid' of gingivitis. It is a permanent disease that will always be there. You can minimize the effects and symptoms with proper care and continual treatment. That's it.

That is why preventive, as in brushing and flossing every day and getting regular exams and professional cleanings, is recommended for your own good.

You were given one set of teeth to use your entire adult life. Once one is gone, that's it, it's gone. There is always replacing your teeth with prosthetics but hey, if your natural teeth couldn't stand up to your wear and neglect, neither will your fake ones.

To make it absolutely clear...you can not get rid of gingivitis on your own, you need to see a dentist, a periodontist would be better, and follow the directions for home care every day.

It's up to you, if gingivitis (a nice sounding name for gum disease) escalates, the gums won't hold in your teeth and they will fall out.

Make sure your oral care regimen says "treats gingivitis" on the label. Brushing and rinsing are a good start as long as you continue to brush 2x day for 2 minutes and rinse for the recommended length on time on the Listerine label. Remember to replace your toothbrush every 3 months and if you still continue to experience gum inflammation ask your Dentist for other treatment options.
