I often wonder the same thing myself.

I think the war in Iraq was contrived.

That said, I want the people there to come home safely - either by protecting them better while they're there, so they make it home, or by pressuring the government to end the war and bring them home.

I have friends and relatives over there. I was against the war from the get-go because I think if you're going to risk your life for your country it ought to be for an actual threat, and people like those in the administration who consider the lives of the troops so casually that they send them to fight an unnecessary war are the ones who really don't support the troops.

I support the troops. I was trying to keep them from getting sent over there in the first place, and now I'm trying to get them home.

First let me say that I openly support both. As a soldier in the U.S. Army I can tell you that it is in fact possible to do this.

You do not have to support what the troops are doing to support the troops. You can be against the war in Iraq and still support the soldiers who are fighting it. Afterall, we're just doing our jobs. You can be asking your congressman to bring us home (a bad idea in my opinion) while still sending care packages and prayers for us (a very good idea, in my opinion).

Though I must tell you that many troops don't see that someone could truly be doing both equally at the same time. I agree with that, you're either supporting us more or going against the war more.

well you gotta look at it two points. People support the troops which means giving all there love, care, support and honor to those who are fighting in this war. They do not support the war in iraq, meaning they do not support the war politically.

There was a time (Vietnam, for example) when the troops were persecuted by society upon returning home, because the public did not agree with the war they were fighting in.

People understand today that, though they may not agree with the war, the troops are still serving their country. They want for the safety and well-being of the troops, even though they don't believe we should have our troops over there.

The idea of supporting the troops and not the war stems from the rather nasty treatment of soldiers by some people after the Vietnam war. They were hated, spit upon, and the like by those who were anti-war.

this should be easy the troops are our bothers and sisters, sons and daughters friends and family members so how can you not support the troops and not the war. war is just an issue the troops are people who fight the war. they die and they lose their limbs and how can you say don't support them i say support the troops for they support us. don't support the war or the government that put them there....GOD BLESS OUR TROOP WHO FIGHT THE FIGHT THAT SOME DONT HAVE THE BALLS TO FIGHT.

It's the same reason as many of those soldiers now fighting in Iraq. They have to do the battle, but they're not in favor of the war.

No one in their right mind would want to send American troops to be killed for lies and greed. The death of every serviceman or woman is on the president who is so arrogant he wouldn't listen to the generals. How he can sleep at night after what he has done is a wonder. We care about our troops. To bad our government doesn't. Another two men have been killed this year from our town.

You don't have to believe in the mission in Iraq in order to believe that our men and women in uniform do an important job in the armed forces that they should be thanked for.
