Obviously help is better, but...

The best way if you dont have a lift is to start several nails spaced to match studding, about as high as you can reach. When you get the board in place, have the hammer in a belt or easy reach and drive in about 4 nails. Then, go to the screws. It's quick, so you don't have to hold the load too long.

A second way is to build a "U" shaped frame out of 2x4's, just slightly higher(about 1") than your wall joint with the base leg about 24-30" long. Lean the frame aginst the wall so the top is about 1/2 " below the joint line, centered on the next panel. Set the panel on it, and lift- then kick the brece legs in toward the wall. this will lift and pin the sheet to the ceiling. I would still nail first for quick position lock.

You got 2 arms, and a hip and sholder. Thats the way the drywallers do it, when they hammered in nails.
Maybe that is your problem...You use a couple of drywall nails to hold it in place and slap up some more panels. After you got 2 or three walls tacked up go to town with the screw gun. Do make sure to make pencil marks where the studs are located top and bottom.
