I think that the nature of my deities is formless but I choose to relate to them in an anthropomorphic way. I don't think that my physical body was made to resemble my deities (that concept is in other religions but it isn't in mine).

In the beginning when God created the Godhead or Trinity was there. The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. The Son Jesus Christ is the image or human body of God. Also God's attributes are Love, Light, all-consuming fire or great energy so Jesus made us in His image because He is God. The angels He created also but not once does the Bible mention that the angels are capable of love. Humans can love God.
The Bible tried to answer your question when Peter, James & John saw Jesus, Moses and Elijah at the Transfiguration where God's voice said "My beloved Son listen to Him." Jesus was shining and temporarily glorified to these 3 disciples in Matthew 17. The Scripture says "His face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light." Just a little glimpse of the glorified body.

When it was said let us create man in our image: Many people take it as is but to me we were formed of the earth for our time here but the real life/spirit that God breathed into man is the part of God that is like himself: Eternal or forever and this is what will be transferred into a new bodies for eternity when we will be called the children of God, those that overcome these many tests.

The reason some of us say God made men in his own image is because we humans cannot imagine anything more perfect than the image of our own human bodies.
Think about it. Can you imagine something more perfect?
Different yes, we could have eight arms but the arms are still our arms and not tentacles. We could have blue skin like Krishna but the image of Krishna is still of a powerfully built man in his prime.
Actually we don't know what God looks like and that is why some of us say he is a spirit. Some early humans called him 'The Great Spirit'.
All of this is contradictory but only in this way:
Water is fluid and wet yet the atoms of water are not.
The atoms of water are like any other, positive and negative charges.

Genesis Chapter 1...Says Let us create man in our image.
Genesis Chapter 2 says God formed man from the dirt and then he breathed in his spirit and the two became a living soul.
Body and spirit together make one soul this is the image of God who is Father Son and Holy Spirit and they are one God.
It is the fact that man has a spirit that does make him different than the animals as they die when there flesh dies but man is more than simply flesh and God also is more than one and the combination of the three is one God and the same as man is body and spirit and they are one soul.

I believe it is our soul or spirit that is made in Gods Image. There are two parts to man, flesh and spirit. That is what I believe.

Muslim belief is that Humans are made from water and clay... And the designer is Almighty God. Its very simple.
To be Muslim is to be in submission and obedience to God. He is the one God who has no partner. Nothing is like Him. He is the Creator, not the created, nor a part of His creation. He is All-Powerful, absolutely Just, All-Knowing, All-Merciful, the Supreme, the Sovereign. There is no entity worthy of worship besides Him.

Ok people, claiming that "in his image" refers to spiritual similarity is even more ridiculous than implying that god also has nipples. We are talking about freaking creator of the universe here.

God is a spirit in the same way that you are a spirit. You have a spirit which has an eternal nature and dwells in your tabernacle of flesh and bones. God is essentially the same way in that he is a spirit and also dwells in a tabernacle of flesh and bones.

How can we make a paper copy of a digital file?
Though God doesnt choose to be in our physical presence, he does have a form and exists apart from mankind.

Actually I'm one of those odd-balls that believes that God does have a tangible body - but glorified and perfected, not subject to illness, death or even time like our bodies are.
