The Taurus NAME will be brought back.
The Five-Hundred will be re-NAMED.
The Five-Hundred is currently built in Chicago, at the factory that used to build the Taurus.
The Fusion is actually the car that replaced the Taurus & it is selling VERY well. But much to Fords surprise, the Fusion sells to a totally different demographic Than the Taurus used to.
The Taurus was more of a typical family sedan & the Fusion is much more appealing to a younger, funner & sportier set of consumers.
The Five-Hundred has a more 'sedate' look to it (which is being freshened for '08) and it is more appealing to our (previous) Taurus clientel so Ford is re-naming the vehicle to suit the clientel.
Makes sense to me. I sell them.

They are talking about changing the name of the Ford 500 to the Taurus; that's all. The Ford 500 isn't selling well, so they're thinking that it will help with sales. I'm sorry, but it still won't help. If you go test drive a Ford 500, an Acura TL, Infiniti G35 sedan, Audi A4, etc etc, you'll find that the Ford is left behind in the dust. In every respect. If you've got some money and you're thinking about buying an entry-level luxury sedan, the Ford just isn't worth your time. My family's owned an Audi A4 & TT, Infiniti G35, Honda S2000, Mercedes C, BMW 3, Volvo avant, Volkswagen Passat & Jetta....I can tell you from experience domestic's just can't match them. I've had friends with Chevys, Fords, Buicks, Pontiacs, Caddys...all you have to do is sit in them and you can see the quality just isn't there. I have a friend who was about to purchase a new Escalade because he honestly thought that's what the height of luxury is. I managed to have him test drive a BMW X5, Audi S4, Lexus GS, Acura TL, and even a Land Rover. He later said to me, "I had no idea! Why hadn't anyone told me about these other cars before! Everyone always talks about Escalades and Ford Trucks and Dodge HEMIs. They don't know what they're missing!" He ended up not only purchasing the Audi S4, but he didn't even want an SUV anymore! He got the Avant (wagon) instead (for the kids). He says he can drop the kids off at school, take the dog out in the back, and then blast it around the back-roads. He told me he's never seen quality like that (the S4) in any domestic car he's ever driven. I don't know, but even though American car companies are starting to turn around, they're too far behind for it to do much good anytime soon. What do you guys think?

Ford is renaming the Ford Five Hundred the Taurus for the 2008 model year. It will include all the new upgrades and features such as a redesign of the front and rear, a 3.5L V6 and 6-speed auto trans.

This will be announced tomorrow at the Chicago Auto Show press day.

That's falsehood. Look on www.motortrend.com and you will see that the Five Hundred is scheduled for a restyle in 2008.
It looks much better and the new 3.5L V6 is to be incorporated into it. However, the bummer is that the sweet CVT, which is available on the Freestyle (crossover), Edge, and the current Five Hundred is being laid to rest.

The six-speed automatic should suffice, though.

Anyway, hope I helped and have a nice week! =]

Sad to say but the Taurus is gone for good.

The 500 is taking it's place and so is the Fusion

The auto makers like to recycle names. It wouldn't surprise me if the name Taurus was re-used.
