They are standard sizes for 35mm film. If you are to have a 4"x6" print enlarged, the next option is 8"x12", followed by 16"x24"...

I went to Aaron Brothers here in Los Angeles and found only one style of 8"x12" frame and no 16"x24" - seems really bizarre to me, especially since I live in a big city. Doesn't anyone have 35mm shots enlarged?!?

I realize standard professional film sizes are 5"x7", 8'x10", etc - but you'd think standard 35mm would be much more available...

Am I missing something?

How about buying some nice wood and making your own frame. You could enlarge a picture to 13x11 if you wanted and simply make a frame to fit it. Not all tht difficult I believe...... about 8 45 degree cuts should do it........

For some reason 8x10 stayed the standard size for 35mm. I had tried to get people to switch to 8x12 while I had a photo lab. Framing companies just sell what people buy. I have seen 8x12s and 16x20s more often lately.

Those aren't standard 35 mm print sizes. The "traditional" size is smaller than 4X6--it's 3.5X5.

The standard photo paper is 8X10. The next smallest size is 5X7. 4X6 is a weird hybrid, a size between the smallest and next biggest standard sizes. Half of 5X7 is...you guessed it!

8X12 is an odd size. If you want an odd size, you'll have to get a custom-sized frame, or go big and put in matting.

As you say, they are not standard enlargement sizes. Store don't keep much stock on items that they aren't going to sell a lot of. Many frame store sell pairs of frame edges of all sizes so you can mix and match as you choose.

Well once sure. It was once ugly Buk. U-G-L-Y!! There was cereal ... Cereal far and wide. It appeared like a Captain Crunch awareness camp! I was rightfully asked to depart the shop ... After the three hours it took me to comb up that mess. Now I stick simply Single-Hop Flying Kick-Sharts in wide open parking tons and fields. Peace ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
