According to Johnson & Johnson brand the active Ingredients in baby powder are: Topical Starch (Cornstarch), Zinc Oxide, USP (talc).
Also contains: Aloe Barbadensis, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Fragrance
It also specifically notes that baby powder is not for oral use, and there is a reason for that...

The problem in that list is the USP (talc). If talc is inhaled into the lungs, it can cause serious breathing problems. Scar tissue may form and the lungs may not work as well. It probably hasn't caused you any real problems yet, but if you make it a long-term habit it definitely will become a serious problem.

Your cravings for it may just be a sign of a nutritional deficiency, before continuing to ingest the baby powder I recommend speaking to your doctor about what kind of foods you can eat instead. It's likely you need more starchy foods since that's a main ingredient, your body recognizes the smell of the baby powder as a source of starch and so it causes the craving.

Baby powder is made mostly of corn starch. But eatable corn starch doesn't have the perfume or other ingredents. You didn't say which brand. So I suggest that you read the label, do a search on the internet of each ingredient. That should tell you if it is a consumable product or not. Still if it was meant to be eaten it would have been passed by some government agency if it were. So don't eat it!

That's not a good thing to do,shaking and eating "baby powder" could get in your lungs causing a "pneumonia" impairing the function of the lungs, and who knows what else? I would stop this behavior, and try to talk about this with a parent or a counselor at school. Take care. SW RNP

One of the ingredients in powder is zee mays which is also cornstarch. Maybe you are anemic and need more iron in your diet. I would check with your doctor if I were you and let him perform all of the necessary blood tests needed to be sure.

My friend was addicted to cornstarch for over 4 years and finally was able to stop because of taking vitamins and iron prescribed by her doctor. He prescribed the right vitamins and iron supplements for her from taking a blood test.

I think you have pica. I've heard of people licking the top of the Comet cleanser or eating spoonfuls of cornstarch. I don't know how harmful it is to snack on baby powder but you could ask your school nurse. At least use fragrance-free!

Well, it's certainly not going to kill you, but you really should stop. You should never eat anything except food.

Usually craving non-food items is a sign of mineral deficiency.
